ANOTHER VIRUS WARNING

Look out for a new mass mailing Windows virus called "MiMail"
You will get a email disguised as a message from the users domain name
"Administrator" the person that controls ownership of email addresses
it says "I would like to inform you about some inportant info regarding your email address.
This email address will be expiring. Please read attachment for details"
The virus is in the attachment, named message.zip
The virus creates a file on your computer and attemps to run this file searching your hard drive for email addresses .
so MAKE SURE YOUR ANTIVIRUS IS UP TO DATE >

Post Re: Virus Warning

Sigh

I hate to say this guys.. But everytime you warn someone about an impending email virus. Your spreading the virus. Let me explain..

In most of these cases there is no virus.. Hmm well there is.. Its the message your spreading and alarming people that something bad could happen.

If you think of a virus as somehting bad that can cause distress to the person that recieves it. and that its something that spreads.. then thats exactly what your doing when you "pass the message on"

Always go to somewhere like the norton website and make sure its a valid virus and not a hoax before "sprading" it.. then post an url to the info rather than a message of doom and gloom.

As for firewalls?  hmmm the jury is out.. I ahvent got or need one.. there for paranoid people who think they have something to hide...My ports are closed.. OK a firewall will show them as not there.. But what hacker wants to get into my computer?

Its a bit like the paranoia that used to surround email...people can read your email they used to say..hmmm so what?  not exactly any earth shattering secrest in mine.. why would  a hacker go to the trouble to read the inane rubish I write every day?

If a firewall makes you feel betetr then use it.. But all those alerts saying it caught someone trying to enter your computer is actualy just one of thousands upon thousands of bots out there looking for open ports.. By the time the bot owner gets the message you ahve an open port..the chances are you shut down and slept a few times and had a few diferent IP addresses since then and he cant find you again.

eerm rambling again arnt i
