Re: vista ultimate edition
Oh dear Chav,
Vista is properly broken. a lot of users are finding it takes an AGE to move copy or delete files, there are issues with hardware drivers for even mundane things (including the ability to talk to Microsofts very own Pocket PC), forget it if you have an iPOd as it will wipe your iPod of music.
As for the 'cool' stuff, Linux has had desktop widgets via Superkaramba for YEARS, you can embed stuff in your desktop (I have a nice ticker with the threads from my fav Usenet group), weather, system performance monitors, 3D switching of desktops (Windows and Virtual Desktops), in fact, there is nothing in Vista that hasn't been on Mac and Linux for a country age.

Re: vista ultimate edition
dear entwisie
have you actualy used it or just going off what you read on google
any new OS ewill wipe your ipod that is apples fault not microsofts but like posted before there are ways around it as i have now sorted out 3 other peoples ipods
no problems at all and i am sure that any i ocme across i will be able to deal with and if i cant then i will google for help and if that dosnt work then i will go back to my xp hard drive until a fix is released
it cant be that bad because your favourite place PC world are selling all tehir systems with vista home on lol

Re: vista ultimate edition
Yes Chavie, I have used it, I beta tested it reporting a number of bugs.
Whys its apples fault that a perfectly useable piece of software stops working because the OS has decided to implement something a totally different way and does not check that you aren't trying to use software not designed to run on it? That s poor software design on Microsofts behalf, not Apples.
yes, its being sold all over the place and its going to cause a lot of people a lot of trouble. e.g. another 'bug' that has gone live with no fix date even planned is teh exif editing facility. it has a habit of rendering teh images totally unuseable. so those nice pictures you have suddenly are useless bits of data that no-one can do anything with.
It is quite honestly no where near fit for purpose and more and more sites are showing that. You don't have to be a Linux guru to know that an OS that will destroy your data without asking is not a good idea.

Re: vista ultimate edition
I've got Vista Home ... hmmm something or other lol ... pre installed on my laptop from Pc World and I also like it too Chavster
It has some diggy little gadgets to play with
One thing I have noticed is the help is easy to navigate and sorts the problem when your having trouble with something.

Re: vista ultimate edition
comes to something when the thing that impresses is the help system that tries to solve all your problems

Re: vista ultimate edition
Tinks, what 'score' does Vista give you for your laptop, if its under 3 then you don't get all the wizzy bits

Re: vista ultimate edition
I think I spotted that it said 3.0 ... does that sound right?
I'll have another look tomorrow, I'm on the pc at the minute and can't be bothere loading the laptop up
... and before you ask why I'm on the pc instead of my all singing & dancing Vista laptop it's because my SecondLife game isn't Vista compatible yet lol!

Funny that, I plugged my friends ipod in to my Ubuntu Linux laptop and it displayed all the songs and didn't wipe a thing. I could even copy them from the ipod to the laptop if I wanted, which I don't think is possible normally.
