A twist to the minutes silence

I hate the minutes silence... I stand for it and spend the whole minute cringing waiting for some moron to break the silence... Its a pain.

Tommorow Glasgow will remember Jock Stien with a minutes Applause..... Much much better IMHO..........Everyone is forced to do a minutes silence wether you want to ot not.. a minutes applause can be done by whoever..

i think minutes silence should be changed to a minutes applause at football matches

I think the applause is a much better idea.

A celebration, rather than you say an excrutiating ten, I mean one minutes silence.

What an excellent idea. Would be wonderful for a sportsman or actor - they'd love it.

Re: A twist to the minutes silence

That's different. The silence on Remembrance Sunday is a different type of thing to the celebrating the life of one person at a place like a football ground. I can see a definite distinction and a place for both types.

a great idea, i like it. But the silence does make me really really concentrate and remember what it is I am s'pose to be remembering, am not sure clapping would focus me enough but its not as depressing as the silence tho. I must admit I find it odd why people bow their heads to pray.......?

Maybe it's to cut out distractions? I tend to close my eyes (which is OK if I'm standing up because there's no chance of me falling asleep).

Re: A twist to the minutes silence

I was living in London when it was Diana's funeral, and the silence as the coffin came through Hyde Park was deafening, except for one or two Latino types who started wailing.

It was a much nicer, celebratory atmosphere, when the coffin was driven back up Park Lane and everyone applauded and threw flowers, although I don't think the groundsmen would be very happy if that caught on at the football, they have enough to contend with paper streamers.
