England 2 - 0 TT
Nice to get the 2-0 win but we have got to reflect on Englands dull first half performance. Looking at both the 2 matches, England have 6 players (excluding the defence) so far who have contributed and look like they are on form. Rooney, Crouch, Cole, Beckham, Lennon & Gerrard.
Owen looks like 5 months sidelined has knocked his fitness which England admitted happened to Becks in Japan 2002. Fortunately Rooney has had on 6 weeks out. Lampard mis controls it so often, and wastes it with greater regularity, and if he's not taking chances, which he isn't, he's not as effective.
Lennon gave us width, pace and when he cuts in the big matches he'll be a real threat to even Brazil, Argentina or anyone else. Becks should move to centre as he is the only midfielder who can thread the eye of the needle. J Cole played well and was our best forward player in an average first half. He beat a lot of players and posed a real threat down the left and as Venables said when he cut back inside.
To be fair though we missed enough chances to win 5-0 and with the 2nd half performance where we didn't resort to panicking and lumping it in, it looks promising for England. I was pleased about the tight short stuff we played in the middle of the park (except Lamps who is out of form) and it snuffed them out possession wise. Becks, SteveG are class players but also they have control & finesse we ussually associate with foreigners.
We al have our form team, mine would be;
Robinson
Neville, Terry, Ferdinand, Cole
Lennon, Becks, Gerrard, J Cole
Crouch, Rooney.
