Re: Inter/AC Flares!!!
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has authorised the use of "drastic measures" in a crackdown on violence in Italy's football stadiums.
Berlusconi, who owns AC Milan, met Interior Minister Giuseppe Pisanu following the abandoned quarter-final second leg between Inter Milan and AC Milan after Inter fans showered the San Siro pitch with bottles and flares.
Berlusconi's office issued a statement saying: "There is a clear risk of even more serious incidents in future, a risk which must be avoided by all possible means.
"Premier Berlusconi urged the interior minister to maintain the firm line that has been taken for some time, with particular reference to preventative measures.
"However, resorting to the most drastic measures available should not be ruled out if necessary."
Tuesday's scenes were only the latest to shame Italian football and followed a warning this week from Pisanu that he might order high-risk matches to be played behind closed doors.
At the weekend, Lazio ultras - renowned for their far-right tendencies - brandished swastika flags and fascist banners during a Serie A game against Livorno and there was crowd trouble at several grounds across the country.
Tuesday's quarter-final second leg was the second Champions League game in Italy to be called off this season because of violence. AS Roma's match with Dynamo Kiev in September was stopped after referee Anders Frisk was struck by a missile.
Also in Italy Twenty Juventus fans were stopped by the police. We searched the vehicles, and their homes and we found baseball bats and other weapons. Eight of them have been detained by police for being in possession of arms."
Tensions are running high in Turin where extra police have been put on duty for tonight's match between Liverpool and Juventus following threats from groups of Italian ultras.

Re: Inter/AC Flares!!!
UEFA insisted Inter Milan had not been let off lightly with a four-match stadium ban for the crowd trouble which led to Tuesday's Champions League derby being abandoned.
Inter had feared expulsion from next season's Champions League given that this was a second offence, but a UEFA disciplinary panel instead imposed a £132,000 fine (300,000 Swiss francs) and ordered to play six matches behind closed doors, two of which are suspended for three years.
Don't know what UEFA consider punishment this has got to be the biggest let off since OJ.
Gate revenue from the night 1m pounds, add consessions and 132,000 is a drop in the ocean, 4 games behind closed doors, they have to go in to the quailfiers for either the CL or UEFA Cup so 2 closed door games against Marcbi Tel avi or Hansa Rostock 2nd 11 isn't really going to generate much money.
Imagine what the punishment would have been if it was an English club.

Re: Inter/AC Flares!!!
Flares are allowed in Italian stadiums and can be bought outside from street vendors, they are now talking about banning them, talk about after the horse has bolted, as for arrests the average is about 20 people every game and they go before a magistrate who has an office in the town, they pay the fine which ranges from 30e to 70e depending on what the police say, as no record is taken they don't count them as holigans, go figure.

Re: Inter/AC Flares!!!
I know this is slightly off topic but it is uefa who is trying everything in its power to have a UK team and not individual teams, FIFA would love it but it is Blatter and his mates who really want it because they could then have one rep from each country in the CL and not 2 guranteed and 2 quailifiers from England, 1 from Scotland and qualifiers from Wales and Ireland. Then just like the EU they could impose more rules on us with no come back from the FA, one of which is only 2 pro leagues per country with all other leagues as feeder leagues.

Re: Inter/AC Flares!!!
i think the italian fans should collectivley be banned for a couple of years from any uefa or fifa competitions.it wasnt only the Milan game but Juventus v Liverpool match as well were flairs were hurled into the Liverpool supporters after the match ended.Wonder what would have happened if any english clubs supporters had done it?.Uefa is full of double standards not only with the Italian fans but Turks as well, very little was done when the Leeds fans were killed.I think its time for a shake up internally with uefa ,lets have abit of common sense............

Re: Inter/AC Flares!!!
If that had been an English team we would have been thrown out of Europe for another 2 years. Not the first time in Europe that the Italians have had trouble, is it?

Re: Inter/AC Flares!!!
Wich would suggest to me taht the UEFA is looking at he world through different spectacles. The Germans lately had an international game where there hooligans were terrible. So it must be up to our UEFA representatives to start opening their mouths.Surely the F.A. can point the finger back.

Re: Inter/AC Flares!!!
We would have seen English clubs collectively banned if one of our teams had sinned in such a manner. UEFA have been spineless with this sanction.
I realise that it's naughty to say it, but... don't you think that that flare that was thrown was a bloody good shot? Bearing in mind that the divvy that threw it was about 40 yards away and it was his intention to try and hit the 'keeper.
