Who said you had to sing, just because the crowd sings, when the queen rides past at the changing of the guard you don't see anyone singing.
As for the price you are paid for doing your job it has nothing to do with it, generally quiet a stupid post.

Re: National Anthem And Footballers

Being an England player isn't just about kicking a ball.. They have the nation watching them and they can't even sing the national anthem for the country they are playing for. how bad does that look.. the ones that dont sing are a disgrace.

Your supposed to be proud to play for your country. its the whole package.. they know they are being filmed.

Pay me what they get paid and I will sing my heart out

Bazf.. I would make an exception for any scousers in the squad who are too busy feeling sorry about something or other.... but the rest.... tut tut

Re: National Anthem And Footballers

Good to see a positive discussion, and you of all people trying to pick some one up for general grammer, since you seem to know that these over paid players have no pride in their country how about proving it, I don't think that not sing the national anthem proves your point but I'm waiting to hear how you know this.
Maybe you know them personally?
Maybe they tell you how much they get paid?
Maybe they told you they hated playing for England and had no pride?
or maybe your just writting drivel because its the first thing that came in to your head.
By the way removing Karma doesn't mean your right.

Re: National Anthem And Footballers

I have to agree with BazF here...A lot of players maybe trying to focus and "get in the zone" for the game, it's not maybe they are not proud to represent their country it's just it think there concentration is fully on the game but everybody is entitled to their own opinion..

Re: National Anthem And Footballers

one other thing i'm gonna mention is that some footballers dont sing on purpose to psyche themselves up just listening to the supporters

others are gathering their thoughts for a big game etc and want to focus

and some just dont know what the words are

i think the prob is that unlike america we shud sing the national anthem at school too

Re: National Anthem And Footballers

here it is folks in full (or at least as full as I found it)

first publicly performed in London, 1745
1. God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us;
God save the Queen!

2. O Lord our God arise,
Scatter her enemies
And make them fall;
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all!

3. Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign;
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen!

4. Not in this land alone,
But be God's mercies known,
From shore to shore!
Lord make the nations see,
That men should brothers be,
And form one family,
The wide world over.

5. From every latent foe,
From the assassins blow,
God save the Queen!
O'er her thine arm extend,
For Britain's sake defend,
Our mother, prince, and friend,
God save the Queen!

6. Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
And like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush.
God save the King!

Think the first verse is quite adequate her Ber999t ... as if they don't know the words to this !!

Psyche themselves up for heaven's sake !! Just making excuses for them.

Should be mandatory to put this in their match training, nothing more theraputic than to have a good bellow of the lungs to release pre-match nerves I would say, and psyche them up for their country.

You may have that the wrong way around, they do sing the national anthem in schools in the USA and also start the day with the Pledge of Allegiance.
