Save our Soccer Pitches

Hi folks.
It's a bit cheeky doing my maiden speech/introduction and asking you for help at the same time.

We'd like you to help save Huncoat's playing fields. We need your opinions by Thursday so that we can present them alongside our petition this Friday.

I'm Kevin Logan, one-time vicar of Christ Church, now living in Kingsway, Church. I'm married to Ann, a long-time Burnley-road/Huncoat area lass, and we're trying, along with others, to save the soccer pitches at Bolton Avenue, Huncoat for our kids and grand kids.

The council are looking at concreting it over for a new housing estate.

David Dunn’s face-saving Rover’s goal against Arsenal last Sunday had its genesis on Huncoat’s soccer pitches off Bolton Avenue. Blackpool’s Brett Ormerod began honing his skills on the same pitches together with many other lads like ex-Blackburn junior Keith Barker, former Oldham centre-forward Neil Edmonds and ex-Blackpool and Stanley midfielder Barry Shuttleworth.

To sell them off would be to turn our backs on tomorrow’s talent, a scandal considering the following:-
·At least six teams use the fields for winter matches and summer training;
·Huncoat looks much better in bloom than brick;
·Much-needed green belt should be preserved in brick-blanketed towns;
·Wild life and the environment, ramblers and dog-walkers badly need Huncoat’s open spaces;
·A nation preparing for 2012 Olympics needs to increase sports facilities not decrease them;
·Hundreds of school pitches have been sold off nationwide;
·There’s the growing crisis of childhood and adult obesity;
·Kids in sport generally stay out of court, and
·Soccer builds fit, team-spirited adults to the benefit of society.

In addition to all the above, Hyndburn Homes and residents are planning wonderful regeneration for the nearby desolate Within Grove at exactly the time the council might be selling off the crown jewel attraction.

Would you sign the petition if you had the chance? We'll attach your comments to the petition.
Thank you.
