Not quite, apparently. Did anyone see the programme on TV the other night that suggested the match was rigged? We all know about Geoff Hurst's goal that wasn't, this programme highlighted several dubious refereeing decisions to support its claim that the match was won by less than fair means. If I remember correctly the inference was that the ref had accepted a bung.

Re: The Great debate.

God it must be a slow news day when they have to have a program about rigging matchs in the sixtys or is just that if England do well we have to knock them down? Let me guess the reporter was from err... Scotland, Ireland, Wales or a mixture of all 3.

Debate is now over.

Here's a shiny gold thing that a fabulous England team won.

At least it was in living memory. Eh ?

Le Tournai! You're having a laugh........no one took that seriously...that was 3 teams having a minor kick about in the park....I think the other 2 teams gave us the cup out of sympathy for having won nowt.

This debate has only just begun....

Re: The Great debate.

Why do you hate the england team so much? Are you jealous or something that you cant play at that level or something?

Re: The Great debate.

the excuses are already being rolled out for tonight's match. Apparently England have never won a match that has been exclusively televised on ITV. That's according to this morning's Daily Express.

Re: The Great debate.

Scott, I don't "hate the England team"..........like any other person on here I would love to see any team or individual in any sport win while representing this country.

However, what I do have is contempt for English football as played at the premiership and national level. I object to the incomes the players receive, I object to the coverage on the TV and in the media, I object to the England team's miserable performance, I object to their lack of skills and leadership, I object to the fact the manager is a foreigner, I object to the England Captain because he is a complete waste of time....

No, it's everyone else who's following these idiots who's crazy (I acknowledge my eyesight is'nt to good)....do you seriously believe Beckham as a captain is any good? So you really think that the opposition are going to respect an English Captain who wears his wifes underwear....they're going to be pi**ing themselves with this joker. Get real, Simon.
