I'd go along with that..I'm not having a dig at Capello but he did say his team selection would be on players who were on form and not to select players simply because they were part of the furniture..but he has done just that..there is not a ounce of good young players in this team.. it's all been the same old stuff.

I wouldn't single Rooney for his comments, that's just newspaper hype, he was rubbish but so were every one of the "stars" wearing an England shirt. They had no energy, no teamwork, no enthusiasm and wouldn't have scored if they had played all week. I read that the FA want Capello for another 2 or 3 years!!! He shouldn't be there for the next game, if he can,t get anything better out of a bunch of overpaid "heroes" he should join then on the dole. I've never seen an England team so disjointed in my life. Nuff said.

The simple differance to me was Algeria who are not n never will be a good side,wanted it more than our over hyped prats, was glaringly obvious to anyone who watched, they showed more commitment.

And probably their manager was playing them in positions they play best in, we've all heard of square pegs in round holes, was very evident last night, managers such as Fergie, the Fat Waiter, Redknapp, ect put these players out on the field for 9 months of the season, its hardly rocket science to see Rooney doesn't play the system well and Gerrard is no left winger and as for Eskey, well forget it

There's no excuse for a performance like that. As soon as these prima donna football players go up against a team with something to prove or any hunger to win whatsoever, they buckle.

There's a definite lack of leadership on the field. The best at leading by example (David Beckham) is out injured. Steven Gerrard isn't at his best after a lacklustre domestic season.

To me, the starting eleven doesn't look balanced at all. The two most technically gifted defenders in the England squad (Ledley King and Rio Ferdinand) are out injured, and have been replaced by a traditionally bit-part utility player in Jamie Carragher. The brightest spark going forward (Joe Cole) hasn't yet had a look in, while one of England's most effective players in international games over the last five years (Peter Crouch) has only seen a few minutes off the bench. Aaron Lennon is notorious for offering a severe lack in end product, I've no idea why he's in ahead of Shaun Wright-Phillips. Emile Heskey, God love him, is a player low on confidence, poor in front of goal and increasingly ineffective as a target man as the games wear on.

And as I type this, Glen Johnson has been skinned ten more times...

It's certainly not over, but it's going to take something very special for England to get anywhere near the standard that they should be at, as World Cup contenders.

I know England were crap in both games and I'm as annoyed as everybody else, but don't know if you remember 66, we drew our first two games and were crap then too

Too often we find solice when our peers are failing as well as us. When, really, we should be even more frustrated that we've been unable to capitalise on the situation and prove to everyone that we are in contention for the big prize.

As others have said when these overpaid mollicoddled prima donnas come up against a team who may not be as technically good as they are but are actually hungry for a win & play for the pride of wearing their shirt, they can't deal with it - thats why I prefer non league/lower league footy to watching any premiership team

Agreed! Yet another reminder of why I prefer to spend my Saturday afternoons watching hard-grafting, no-frills journeyman players, rather then overpaid, precious, prima donna-ish, egotistical, self-regarding PRATS!

As for Rooney's petulant whining, he ought to reflect on the fans who scrimped and saved their money to go out to SA to support him and his team mates, only to be let down by his pathetic no-show on the pitch.
