Hyndburn Sports Awards 2010

The Hyndburn Sports Awards 2010 were held at Accrington Town Hall on Friday, it was great to see representives from so many grassroots sports clubs present and clubs and individuals receiving recognition for all their hardwork.

The presentation was well organised by Jane Grantham, Sports Development Officer and guest speakers were Phil Smithson ex British Judo Champion and John Coleman, Accrington Stanley Manager.

Awards were presented for:
Community Club of the Year
Young Volunteer
Rising Star
Special Recognition Award
Coach of the Year
Lifetime Achievement Award

At Accrington Girls and Ladies FC we were delighted to win the Community Club of the year for the third time having previously won the award in 2004 and 2008, not bad for a club only founded in 2002. In addition 3 of our young ambassadors were rewarded with the young volunteer of the year award for their work wih our Acorns Squad. As a club we are really proud of Beth, Tash and Kerry who were all founder members of the club in 2002 and as wel as playing for our under 18's team are now putting something ack into the club

For winning the Club of the Year the club received £100 however we decided to donate the money back to fund aspiring sports stars in Hyndburn.

I would urge all Grassroots Clubs to get involved with the Sports Awards, and although at AGLFC we won 2 awards I would say that all the nominees were winners by their dedication and hardwork in promoting grassroots sports in Hyndburn
