Re: Metal Detecting (Including Finds).
I took the detecting stick over to the bottle dump to see if I could find any silver tea sets, sadly I only found a few corroded bits of cutlery (and a few nice bottles).

Re: Metal Detecting (Including Finds).
Today,I took the detecting stick for a stroll across a local permission.
The ground was saturated and it was very difficult to dig in but I managed to find a dry patch,it wasn't long before the bits started rolling in.
The finds of note are:-
1 old penny (1900s)
4 old half pennies (3 1900s 1 1800s)
1 bell
1 (hallmarked) keyring
1 (non hallmarked) ring

Re: Metal Detecting (Including Finds).
Today I had a chance to get out detecting again,I took the detecting stick to my local permission for a couple of hours again.
There I was, head down, scanning the ground when I spotted a little silver ring lying on the surface......great start I thought to myself.
Well, before I knew it,it was soon time to head back home.
The finds of note are:-
2 old ship half pennies
2 threepence's
1 silver ring
1 Blackburn corporation button
1 sixpence
1 1904 one cent coin

Re: Metal Detecting (Including Finds).
Today I managed to secure another permission for a local (pasture) field.
Believe me,buying a detector is the easy part it's getting permission from land owners where the challenge lays.
I don't think I'd of been so determined to find land if I hadn't of committed to buying myself a detector that's for sure.
Anyhow, after spending 4hrs wondering in the cold with nothing except two pre-decimal half pennies,I began thinking to myself that the detecting gods were sat laughing at me.
Plundering on wether to call it a day or not, I decided to try beneath a few old trees at the bottom of the field.
After trying a few trees without a signal my detector starting screeching my ears out and I wasn't digging very long when out popped a (ornate) gold looking object.
My heart was racing as I scanned for a hallmark, sadly it wasn't to be
However, soon after I did find a hallmarked sterling silver kermit the frog pedant .

It may not be hallmarked but what a fascinating thing.
4 claws? Looks quite old. Worth investigating!

Re: Metal Detecting (Including Finds).
Interesting item & I'd say GP24's picture is a pretty good match.
Curiouser & curiouser.

Tibetan. Potent male symbol! You'll have to try it out??
These Tibetans know things we don't.

Hey, your heart could be beating even so, there must be plenty of golden objects from before hallmarks where used, maybe you are lucky.

Don't Less,it's been a rollercoaster of emotions already today
I think hallmarks became compulsory around the 30s,I don't think it's that old

Introduced 700 years ago. Ahh well.
Looks like brass, as per Gpicks example.
Still a lovely find.
