Re: Metal Detecting (Including Finds).

I've not been detecting for a few days because, well, ruddy Mrs E, life and work have been getting in the way of detecting.

Anyhow,I decided things had to change and today I had a couple of hours in the snow swinging the detecting stick around at the local park.
It was lovely and quite at first till a influx of youths (about 10-13yrs old) came and spoilt the silence.
One young lad came over after about 10mins and asked "what you looking for?" to which I replied "anything metal".
Whilst he was present,I had a signal and he asked if he could dig it up.
I was a little reluctant at first, but not wanting to get attacked by snowballs,I showed him how to cut a sod out and I found a pound coin in the hole.
I gave it to him and said he could keep it and with that he went running back to his clique.
It wasn't long before I had another signal and before I knew it I had all these young whippersnappers round me, they were like seagulls round a chip, asking if they could dig it up.

I said "no" but allowed them to stay and watch,I think they were expecting a hoard of pound coins ,but their dreams were short lived as I pulled a rusty can out from the hole

Well,the finds of note are:-

1 unknown,tooled, lead item
1 (fake bling) dog bone tag
1 silver tiger charm
1 pre decimal penny
2 pre decimal half pennies
1 rusty chain and £4.30p in spendable coins.

Re: Metal Detecting (Including Finds).

Today,Mrs E wasn't feeling too clever so I ended up walking the hound.
As I grabbed my jacket I must of knocked my detecting stick at the back of the cupboard.
Anyhow,to cut a long story short,I smuggled my detecting stick out and took the hound down to my local pasture permission for a hour or so.

The finds of note are:-

3 pre-decimal pennies (1897,Georgey and a Irish one)
1 buckle part
1 musket ball
1 threepenny bit
1 (blank) button
1 1978 belle vue knock out cup winners badge and a unknown.

Re: Metal Detecting (Including Finds).

I decided to have a couple of hours up the coppice this morning, the weather was nice but chilly but the view was fantastic.
It started off slow at first, digging up nothing but rubbish,so wanting a better finds to work ratio I moved off to a different spot.
Anyhow,It turns out it was a good move,I found a few bits of (modern) pocket change and a few predecimal coins (plus 2 unknowns) but as I was walking back to the car swinging the detector around randomly it starting screaming a high pitch tone,So couriously I started digging and found a lovely little cap badge

Only just seen this, but can confirm it's RA (Royal artillery). Probably earlier part of the 20th century as the badge seems tarnished. Modern cap badges tend to be made from a metallic composite called "stay bright" surprisingly enough they tend not to tarnish.

Re: Metal Detecting (Including Finds).

The other day, against my better judgement, I went out with the detecting stick.
I went to a local field and I ended up digging nothing but rubbish (ringpulls, bottle tops and rusty cans).

The weather was miserable, I got blown about all over the place and ended up having to shelter from hailstones.
And then to top it off,I got back home covered from head to toe in mud and discovered that I'd lost my portable phone charger.

SO,in need of detecting therapy,I decided to go to a undisclosed location today and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest.
The weather was lovely, the birds were singing, and I found a array of different bits

The finds of note are:-

9 pre decimal pennies
9 pre decimal half pennies
4 old buttons
3 silver sixpences
3 20p's
3 threepenny bits
3 10p's (2 spendable,1 chunky old one)
1 dime
1 two shillings coin
1 shilling
1 old 50p
1 bullet casing
1 dog tag
1 unknown badge type item
1 pendant
1 silver ring
1 umbro zip tag
1 old key
1 sterling silver swastika badge
1 Unknown badge
1 old penknife and a few bits of copper pocket change.
