Re: How many and what ?

As I have a new bus I thought I'd best update this

1976 escort Mk2 1.6 Ghia - written off bottom of lonsdale street
1975 Mk2 escort 1.1 pop (£40) autotested to death and scrapped
1974 Mk1 Escort 1300GT Rally prep'd and driven like a lunatic
1963 Ford Zephyr4. Sold to a plod who nicked my private number plate
1975 MGB GT sold to a bloke who cancelled the cheque, got money through small claims
1968 Triumph Vitesse Mk1 2 litre ( one of my favourite cars with the Zephyr ) bought for 400 quid and absolutely loved it, a proper Q car.
1981 Fiesta 1 litre ( swapped vitesse for it as they wouldn't insure Julie to learn in the Vit) written off on boxing day at huncoat on black ice at 15 mph
1988 Citroen BX - non descript but reliable old bus
1959 Austin A40 - written off when kids smashed window and let handbrake off on Westwood street.
1968 Moss Malvern ( Herald 13/60 based kit car like a morgan - was cursed! - given to friend to just get shut of.)
1995 Rover 418 SLD - written off at J19 by a 3.5 tonne vito 40mph rear shunt)
1986 VW golf - given to friend after standing unsed for 12 months as I'd bought..
1993 Alfa 155 Twin spark - converted to lpg in 2000
1994 Saab 9000 - gain LPG'd
1997 Volvo V70 2.5 turbo - yep, LPG'd
1997 Audi A8 4.2 Quattro Sport - LPG - lovely when it worked
2005 Honda Accord CDTI - boring white goods but reliable as the sun, died 12/2/2013 M6 J21 thanks to a Focus driver not seeing brake lights

My new Bus

VW Phaeton 3.0 V6 TDI - built on the same platform as a Bentley Conti GT, stunning build quality mile munching luxo barge..

Re: How many and what ?

Not many really.
I only began driving aged 24. I had a black corsa first, which then was sold to my friend because I bought an old Renault campervan for festivals and UK camping trips. I realised I couldn't be bothered driving the campervan all the time especially for shorter (supermarket) trips and stuff so I got another corsa, which I covered in ladybird and sunflower vinyl like a proper little hippie. The insides were ladybird themed as well, steering wheel cover, the lot...

That died and I got my ex-police Ford Focus and sold the van when I got a fulltime job in an office and it wasn't getting used. I still have the focus and have since bought another van which I am now considering selling due to house move and not getting much chance to use it...Camping trips aren't the first thing on my mind now I need to buy a house again unfortunately.

I also had my Mother's old cast off BMW very briefly before I got the focus, when she got a new one but that didn't last long. Mostly because I park in a lot of questionable places and was paranoid after it was vandalised once (not badly, I guess the scratbags were just angry that it was alarmed and they couldn't get into it).

My scruffy focus seems to attract far less attention. Still costs almost as much to run though!I don't know what I want next-I think this car might be mine until it's absolutely knackered, I've had less problems with it than any other vehicle.
I apologise for not remembering dates, I'm pretty much useless with things like those!

Re: How many and what ?

I'll go with the memorable ones:

A fifty something Hillman Minx ... A '61 Morris Minivan ... A '64 Mercury Meteor convertible ... A '67 Mustang with a 390 ci ... '69 Dodge Charger: 383 ci Magnum (383 with 440 heads), 6 pack carbs, hooker headers, hood tach, hurst shift, Thrush mufflers AND and an 8-track ... '71 Cougar XR7 convertible (may last ragtop) ... assorted Fords and Chevs in my married years ... an old IH half ton ... and then a whole bunch more ... and now, in my Golden Years ... a classic Caddy Sedan de Ville ... 5.5 V8 ... only 120,000 original klicks on it And for two wheelin': 2009 Harley Dyna Street Bob; and a sweet little '78 Yammahammer 650 XS, which has the soft tail off and a hard tail put on ... kicked out a few degrees ... peanut tank ... new mikuni carbs ... solo seat ... lagged ground pounder pipes ... forward controls ... and lots of other neat stuff.

Re: How many and what ?

I started with a 1931 Austin Seven( NO it wasn't new!) and had a few of my own before I went on Company cars in my twenties. For many years company policy was a new car every six months so I dare say I've had over seventy cars- all makes, all sizes.
A new car every six months sounds nice but you had to keep them like new(no supermarket car park encounters) and as I towed a caravan for many years fitting a new tow bar every six months wasn't funny either.
Now a nice big, comfy 4x4 does for me, although it broke my heart having to pay for it.

Or maybe a V-Twin:

I have a Corvette muffler on the Caddy ... got a deal on it a couple of years ago. Some guy ordered it, and didn't come to pick it up. Gives the old beast a nice rumbling sound.

I replaced the stock pipes with Bassanis ... but wasn't all that happy with them. Sold them to a buddy of mine and put Samson Street Sweepers on. Loud pipes save lives.
