Urgent radiator advice

Losing water.. cant find leak.. Need car sunday to go to West Ham

How quickly are you losing it? Do you have a puddle under car? Steam? Help us help you with some more info on it mate. What car is it? Do you have wet carpets inside the car?

Have you looked in the the filler bottle while the engine is running, if its forever blowing bubbles it could be the head gasket or it just knows your going to West Ham

Tony, nip to Halfords or Motormania & put some Rad Weld in. won't do radiator any harm but will stop any minor leaks. Not any follow on from accident? Big Al

Its the renault scenic i got... done a couple of thousand miles then on way back from hereford got problems

doesnt blow bubbles.. dosnt leak into engine... called aa out last night and he couldnt find in dark.. filled with water and on way .... 140 quid a year and first time i call them in 5 years and useless

Ok so the bubbles bit was a bad joke

You could of lost water because the care overheated and it blew it out the pressure cap. If thats the case you wont find a leak because you don't have one. Try running the engine at idle until it heats up. Carefully watch the temp gauge and make sure as it get hot - usually between 90 and 100 if it shows on gauge - the radiator cooling fans should come on. You should see the temp start to fall on the gauge and then the fans will switch off again. If they don't you have found your problem. It is quite common for fans to not work. During the winter you might not have got the car hot enough to need the fans so they could have been faulty when you bought it. Then you have to find out why the fans don't work. Could be fuse or duff temp switch, both easy to prove. When the car warms up does the heater blow hot air?

Tony Dont put "Radweld" stuff in your water system unless you are desperate..... It can create its own problems..

Filled it wiht water and now we have a leak..... which wasnt obviosu when driving... so aftre writing this message filling it upa nd finding it dripping i put that stuff in.... now yer frightning me..

It just bung's things up a bit, it can bung up bits that dont want bunging

Dont panic captain mannering, follow the water and fix it PROPER

My car is in for a new Radiator soon it has been leaking for ages

forget about radweld as previous people have said as it can ****** things up.a friend of mine who does repairs and servicing swears by an egg white as daft as it may seem he tried it on an artic and ran from blackburn to london and back with a 40 ft trailer laiden.

If it's only a small leak it might fix it. I would not worry about it damaging anything. Because they can only cure tiny leaks it won't block up any water journals or anything else.
