Memory Card

could someone please help,put a brand new kodak 256mb sd memory card in my kodak easyshare c340 camera, follow instructions to formatt but all get is card unuseable put a new memory card in, if anyone could help and tell me if i am doing anything wrong. cheers. marg.

SD cards have a tiny write protect switch on the side. It could be set to protect the contents of the card. Try changing the position and try again. Or if you have a memory card reader try formatting it in using the PC before sticking it in the camera.

did that entwisi, did,nt work, have, nt got a card reader. will try kodak tomorrow. thanks anyway. marg.

They dont usually need formatting when you get them, usually work straight out the packet.
DO NOT format the card with a pc if its running windows XP, it wont work after in your camera as it will be formatted using the ntfs file system and not fat32 as the camera needs. If you do format on the pc you will have to do it again on the camera to get it to work

XP Home doesn't use NTFS (AFAIR anyway) Only XP Pro can choose it as an option.

SD and MMC cards look the same. Are you sure your camera uses SD and not MMC cards?

They are interchangeable. The only difference is that SD cards have the write protection and are usually faster write speeds. I have 2 cameras, 2 phones, a PDA that all use either MMC or SD. I have 2 512M SD, 2 128M MMc and a few 64s SD and MMC. All are useable in all devices. In top end digi cameras the write speed will be important especially if they are using RAW format.

been in touch with kodak, to check my firmware on camera, it was v.1.000, told me to download firmware v,1.0.2. from their website. found the website, got so far with it then i lost myself somewhere along the way, also checked manual it takes either sd or mmc cards. will have another go to today to download the update version. it wont do any damage to camera, will it?

If you follow the instructions fully there is no risk to the camera. If something should break you will be covered under warranty with Kodak anyway.

If you still struggle you could pop your card round and I will test it in one of my devices.
