I like her voice but don't like the girl.

Re: Amy Winehouse

Well I had a listen to her other lesser known songs on her albums, you know, not the ones in our charts, and I thought they're so different to what she has released. I really enjoy listening to her, and if Andrew Lloyd Weber can give her a thumbs up and liken her to Dusty Springfield and Ella Fitzgerald after seeing her perform live, the girl must have something going for her, and I think that a compliment like that coming from him is something she should be proud of, I think the problem is that she probably doesn't realise that she's ruining herself.

She has a nice raw voice, I like that. There will undoubtedly be people better than her, there always are, and making music isn't all about being seen, I'm sure the majority would rather avoid the publicity and strains of fame and be happy with staying underground with less money, being less well known.

Speaking of strain, anyone seen britneys new song about the paparazzi? I hate the song, but the lyrics are interesting. I kind of like how you can imagine her talking about the things she's singing about. She appears to be much stronger in this new song.

The strains of being a young woman and in the lime light is so clear in both of them, yet they carry on with it and try their best. Those with brilliant talent are better off without the fame in my opinion. Living without superstardom is a small price to pay if they want to stay happy and enjoy their careers.

The list of superstars who have turned to drugs and gone loopy is quite long. Britney, Whitney Houston, Jacko just to name a few severe cases of people who have lost everything due to that kind of fame. Stay in the Jazz cafes talented musicians, dont fight to get into the limelight, it clearly isn't worth it in the long run!

I love her music....don't like seeing her live on TV ( always under the influence from what I've seen ) and I don't like seeing her pics in the papers coz she looks so gaunt and not with it ....a shame really coz she had it all ... ..the voice .... the looks and the respect....sadly she's lost the last two !

to be honest i`m a fan of both, just diffrent takes on a great song, amy winehouse just provides vocals for the other version its actually `done` by mark ronson from his `versions `cd

Yep, but it's her vocals that I don't like.

I haven't seen her live or on telly at all, only listened to her albums. I just like the songs for what they are, i'm not particularly bothered if she looks a bit haggard now as long as I have those lovely albums to listen to

I hate the zutons version, it seems so much slower and drab. I love Mark Ronsons music, get up and dance music amy was the cherry on the top.

So in theory Mark Ronson ruined it aswell as its him 'featuring' amy winehouse. He must've asked her to do it in the first place

Re: Amy Winehouse

Nah it's just the vocals that bug me - particularly the way "Va-alerieee" is sung.

How can you mention Ella Fitzgerald in the same post as Amy Winehouse.....Ella was a different class of singer altogether.
No I'll give Amy a miss.......don't like her at all.

And Yes, I do know that you were reporting what Andrew Lloyd Webber said about her....he must need his ears syringing to make a comment like that.

Re: Amy Winehouse

I'm not an avid listener of Dusty Springfield or Ella Fitzgerald, but to be fair Andrew Lloyd Webber has more musical expertise upon which to make a judgment like that (beyond personal preference) than anyone here on this board.
Winehouse is a total bint in my book; the drugged up fights with her waste of skin husband, the look, the media persona... it's all incredibly annoying. But I do like some of her music. I like Back to Black and her version of 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow' is nothing short of sensational. Seeing her perform live at Glastonbury changed by opinion on her quite a bit.
As far as 'Valerie' is concerned, I don't like her version. It's too polished for me and is void of the soul that The Zutons' original song carries. However I have listened to her raw demo version and I believe it is much better than the final mix. Mark Ronson is an awful producer in my opinion and maybe that's where the animosity towards the song is rooted. It is for me anyway.
