I believe him every time I hear this one - my first love! First saw The Police at Blackburn King George's Hall in Sept. 1978, went after school with a friend and my sister - forgot to take a change of jacket and ended up wearing my stripey Paddock house blazer with jeans! Those were the days....(The original Police version of this song is much grittier but still sends a shiver down the spine!)
All the girls fancied Sting in the early 80's - Fields of Gold reminds me of the days long gone - I think it's a love song about his first love!
All Sting's love songs are great -but then i'm biased!
I think one of his earlier ones is "Walking on the Moon" -which he apparently wrote on the evening he met Trudi Styler (who became his 2nd wife), he was a bit drunk and it describes the elated feeling he had walking home after meeting her! Not a typical ,love song though....

Thought i'd bring in a bit of home-grown talent! I know "Owner of Lonely Heart" would have been a more obvious choice but this one is more of a pure love song....

A particularly romantic ditty in which the singer compares his lady to his canine companion.
The words are so moving I feel compelled to quote some of them.
"How would you like to take your dog to a drive-in movie
or let a dog iron your shirts
how would you like for your dog to cook your meals
or kiss you when you come home from work."
"I don't want no dog to take shopping
scrubbing my floors and mopping
I don't want no dog to take driving around
I prefer a woman anyday to some old beat-up hound."
