Just got back from holiday to hear this sad news. I've seen Bobby perform three times, the last time it was obvious he was very weak from his illness. Never the less he put in a terrific performance and had to be helped from the stage by his daughter.

Bobby played a major part in early development of the Rhythm & Blues scene, along with his brothers he performed with the Valentinos the backing singers with Sam Cooke. He kept up to date with the times all throughout his singing career even featuring with the Gorillaz hip hop virtual band.

I still regard The Poet 1 as his best album.

RIP Bobby
