Joy Division/new Order
One for the lads.Which one did you prefer? The manc miserablists and their songs of despair or their reincarnation as electro-dance happy chart toppers.Did you think 'blue monday' was a better song than 'love will tear us apart'.Was Curtis' suicide a blessing in disguise for the rest of the band.To be honest i think New Order just edge it for me as nowadays i find some of JD's stuff difficult to listen to(a couple of songs off 'Closer' anyhow).Or maybe i'm showing my age. From to .

Re: Joy Division/new Order
Utter and complete garbage, both of 'em. Listen to a different song called Blue Monday by the mighty Fats Domino and hear what REAL music is like!

Fair enough.Iquite expected a reply like that from an old time skiffle-billy like yourself.Fats' 'Blue monday' maybe a good tune, but i think were talking a generation or 2 onwards.P.S...did they have synths, samples & anything resembling 'techno' when Fats was giving us more blues than JD could have ever managed.I don't think so.Your quite welcome to your opiion.Dear me,some of the songs i'm on about are nearly 30 years old,i know your an old timer but come on to my generation some of these songs will last forever.

Re: Joy Division/new Order
I'd have to go for Joy Division.
Not one of my favourite bands at all but Transmission, Ceremony & Love Will Tear Us Apart are great songs.
I despise Blue Monday & in turn can't stand any New Order songs.

Actually, you're probably right there, Manchester is about a hundred yards away at the bottom of the street. However, it's strictly 50's/60's stuff (and bands who play in that idiom) in this house. And what's all this "no offence" stuff? Like yourself, I came up in a tough school (Ralph Bailey's), so please feel free to give me all the "offence" you want!

Re: Joy Division/new Order
I prefer Joy Division as the music was still pretty raw .... New Order's 1st album after Ian Curtis (Movement) was very good ...they still sounded like JD but a little smoother round the edges... never really got into the dance techno stuff from them after that.
Wynonie seems to only like the kind of stuff were bods jump on top of pianos screaming stuff like " wap bobolopop a wam bambo" !

Re: Joy Division/new Order
Kraftwerk meets rainy Manchester.
It was always going to end in tears.

That should be "Awopbopaloobopalopbamboom"! If you must quote the mighty Little Richard Penniman, get it right, Mancie!
Incidentally, you Manc music types might care to investigate Vinyl Revival at 5 Hilton Street (just off Oldham Street) next time you're in the metropolis. He seems to have plenty of Smiths/New Order and all that sort of malarky in stock, including posters and t-shirts.
