Live Earth

Does anyone actually see any point in events like this?
Aside from boosting the ego of Hollywoodised idiots like Phil Collins, that is.

it was the same with Live 8. It's not like the world's banks are going to sit there and go "oh look at that little posh boy from Keane singing 'Somewhere Only We Know', let's cancel the debt!'

The acts are crap aswell.
Razorlight? Genesis? Pass me the bucket.

Re: Live Earth

Has anyone else seen the irony of a concert about saving the planet which is creating it's own huge carbon footprint?

Re: Live Earth

not so willow, the live earth event is designed to be as carbon neutral as possible showcasing state of the art energy efficient technology combing with c02 management, checkout liveearth.org, makes interesting reading.............anyway roll on metallica.....currently finding duran duran a bit tedious.

The whole thing is a farce.

Re: Live Earth

I still can't get my head round the idea of a huge concert being carbon neutral. What about the methods the performers use to travel to the event? What about the audience and the methods they use to get there? Is it being televised?

Do you have a website link to info about its carbon neutralness?

What's happened to all the youthful optmism?

Your are meant to be invincible, and think you can change the world!

It's only later you realise you can't.

From the Aldermaston march, to the anti-Vietnam war rally in Grosvenor Square, via the twenty year protest against apartheid outside South Africa House in Trafalgar Square, young people have been convinced their actions will change things for the better.

Young people nowadays have had their grants taken away, face massive debts incurred after taking out students loans, and we've been at war for four years. Are they taking to the streets in protest? Do they give a fig? No.

I blame Thatcher, and the creation of the 'me first' generation.

The concert is a case in point. Very middle aged and enthusiastically liberal, with youth being represented by Graham Norton.

Bring back Casualty!

I think I'll take to the streets in protest.

They were.

At least the music is better than the Diana concert.

Re: Live Earth

I'm not convinced of her green credentials, but coming up to her half century, old Madge can still rock it.

From yummy mummy to foul mouthed mutha, in the flick of a Gaultier hem.

All that and being as fit as a butcher's dog meant she danced her non-conical tits off, and never missed a beat.

I'm not sure what today's concerts were about, besides raising awareness, but Madonna certainly lit up my low energy light bulb.

Re: Live Earth

Forgot it was on.. I'll bet it's the same old crap they rustle up for these concerts... as mentioned Duran Duran, Phil Collins, what about R.E.M, Brain Ferry,?..and the chubby little fat guy Elton?
One of the promoters was on telly today saying an estimated 2 billion bods would be viewing... 2 billion!! that's a 3rd of the Earths population, just imagine the amount of energy being used.. they'd be better off having a massive conker knock out event, and you could turn all the bashed up conkers into animal feed and crush the shells for road surfacing.
