Re: Long John Baldry
I’m not aware of this gentleman Cashman, but my condolences to those affected by his passing. May his memory live on in those who enjoyed his Music?

Re: Long John Baldry
I remember him coming to the Cavern Cashman. He had a brilliant voice and I'm surprised he didn't go on to greater success. I am sadenned to hear of his death.

Re: Long John Baldry
Very sad news indeed. Most people remember him for his pop hit, Let The Heartaches Begin, but he was actually an extremely talented R&B singer (that's REAL R&B - not today's plastic variety). He had one of the best blue-eyed soul voices in this country, on a par with Chris Farlowe and Stevie Winwood. Never knew he'd appeared at the Accy Cavern - wish I'd seen him. RIP, Long John.

Re: Long John Baldry
Alexis Korner was so good that he inspired a group of Accy musicians to from a band called Korner Blues including Tom Robinson on vocals, Kev "Florrie" Florentine on drums and the highly talented Ian Alveston on guitar. Think somebody mentioned this sometime ago on another thread.

Re: Long John Baldry
John was an exceptional gentleman .
He loved the Blues , and he gave sensational performances both with Cyril Davies' and Alexis Korner's blues bands in 1963 , 1964 .
I first worked with him in 1965 as a backing organist . My group were not the booked musos , but it was a case of "all hands to the pumps" ! I was just learning my craft ; John made it a pleasure to learn .
John Baldry created thrills wherever he played , and I particularly remember his performances with the Brian Augur Trinity and the gorgeous Julie Driscoll (mentioned earlier by another correspondent) in the late Sixties , probably the finest of which was LJB joining with Julie in a really exciting version of "Going To A Go - Go" at the Plebeians' Club , Halifax . This was the first time that they'd performed it together and - as was usual with this wonderful duo - they forgot the words , so we were treated to such lines as "Have A Cup of Cocoa" by the bizarrely-paired John and Jules (he 6'5" , she 4'10") and the audience contributing any words which it thought applicable !
I was totally thrilled when John got that wonderful song "Let The Heartaches Begin" a few years later , even though some purists considered it too commercial. He thoroughly deserved his success , and I've tried to remember him since then by playing it often .
A great singer , and a Big Man in every respect . I'll miss him .
