Claytonx is another one, starting threads by asking for other people's views rather than stating his own.

No, I will not discuss it.
Seeing that punk failed to stop the new romantics, Brit pop etc I cannot see your point.
End of discussion.

Well BG there is only two types of music I utterly detest, Punk and Rap, the latter I'm sure had a c missing from its spelling

No, I don't think Punk was Pop music.......it had a following, but much less so than the true pop music......as for rap, hip-hop, ska, reggae, they all had their followings but...it was more(for want of a better word) specialised...it didn't appeal to everyone.....across age groups...now with pop music you can find youngsters and Grandma's humming/whistling/singing Beatles tunes(substitute your own particular favourite for Beatles).
Real Popular music had a wider following, and Punk didn't kill it at all, it is still going strong.

Agree on that they didn't stop the Bee Gees who were massive in 1978, the year after punks "golden year!" (1977) I see punk as a massive zit on the the face of pop music, when it exploded it very soon cleared up! But did leave a lasting mark = Nirvana!
