R.I.P. George Michael

It's been a bleak year for the passing of musicians.

Rest in peace, George Michael. Too young.

Total shock, have just seen on news.I echo your comment Michael 1954.Far too young, such a fabulous singer, genuine, caring, honest person.(remember when he rang into 'This Morning ) 'and donated hundreds of thousands to a children's charity appeal.

I can't say I was ever a fan, but it is still sad that he has died so young.

Re: R.I.P. George Michael

Cant say I was a fan either Margaret but I believe he gave Ł1000s and Ł1000 away to charities and individuals without making it known. For that he has my admiration.R.I.P

Yes, and he didn't use his giving to promote himself. He was private about it. I like that.

I wasn't particularly a fan but as a follower of charts in the 80's realize how much his music soaked into my brain over the years - his solo LP's from late 80's are surprisingly deep and meaningful, at a cursory listening - so he was a talented guy.

Wasn't a fan at all, cant really argue wi that, also the fact he did much charity work without advertising the fact, puts him right up their in my book.

I think your from different generation - I was sort of into 80's pop generally - so I was aware of his music at the time and his impact - it wasn't known he was gay till late 90's so he had a massive female "teeny bop" type of following in the 80's, would that have been the same if he had been openly gay?

No, perhaps it wouldn't...but then i don't think anyone during that time would openly admit to that when they really relied on the teeny bop following.

It said on the news that he kept it quiet mainly because he didn't want his mother to worry about AIDS - so he is reported to have said that on the matter.

The social climate with respect to same sex relationships was far less forgiving back then too.
It was reported that he thought it would upset his father if his preferences were known.
