Re: Rock n Roll kings

There were a number of excellent bands playing at the time of the Beatles who should have got in on the pole. In respect of the choices I think if you where around at the time or brought up with the Beatles there’s no contest ……Oasis is good standard bearer for them in the 20th century but that all they are….as long as The Beatles continue to sell they’ll live on.

What you should perhaps ask is what are people opinions of The Beatles top ten recordings….

One Question, why Rock "n" Roll as a title?

I don't think I can vote on this because I don't think it's possible to judge these three on any of the same criteria. - Beatles were innovative and exciting at the time but ultimately only made three minute pop songs. Pistols were also innovative and exciting but they were also reviled by people at the time, it is only later that their influence has become recognised as valuable to a generation. Oasis are derivative and basically just copycats yet they make some cracking good records.

Reason why I really can't vote is because I'm not fond of any of them. Now let's talk about Cliff Richard in his heyday, he was more Rock n' Roll than any of them when he started out. Everyone's views of him are skewed by 'Daddy's Home' and 'Mistletoe and Wine' but before that he rocked!

Re: Rock n Roll kings

There was a time when I could sing every one of his pre 1980s hits. How we change eh?

dont be a beurk
I can't imagine how you can even try to compare Cliff Richard to The Beatles;
The Beatles invented Rock'n'Roll, Cliff Richard was just a pin-up, he is the most annoying person on the planet who is NOT a musician and has never wrote a song of his own..oh wait yes he did - wired for sound - what a great song that was cliff richard is just bad smell that won't go away no matter how much you tempt him away with prune juice...

Re: Rock n Roll kings

Woody your 16 and your level of musical competence is somewhat lacking. Your original post was somewhat askew but none the less a valiant try at gain opinion. It is however a pity that you seem to have demonstrated that you are a pillock….

Re: Rock n Roll kings

Woody the Beetles didn't invent rock 'n' roll. They started off, like a lot of other British groups of the time aping their American idols like Carl Perkins, Elvis, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Gene Vincent etc.

The Beetles did go on to change the face of music when they found their own style, just as the Sex Pistols shook up the music scene in the mid seventies when the charts were full of bland pop such as the Osmonds or dire concept music like Tubular bells, and prog rock

Nothing's ever really original. The Beetles were influenced by their American idols who in turn were influenced by county, hillbilly as well as black gospel singers. The Pistols were influenced by the underground New York scene, and bands like the Patti Smith Group and the New York Dolls.
