something new - one for the generations, who is, REALLY, the best guitarist?
My Dad's to blame for this one. Im always ready to keep an open mind, I was brought up on Fleetwood Mac (though I like the later fleetwood stuff, tango in the night etc), Floyd, Deep Purple, dare I say it - ZZ top, Dylan, Lead Zep, The Boss, Dire Straits etc.
People often say that Hendrix was the best. A legend no doubt, but the best? Do we remember him as the best because such a fantastic player died in his prime? Was he REALLY the best or is he remembered by his generation as the best. What about Slash from Guns n Roses, or even Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins, where do Aerosmith fit in and, for that matter, Mark Knopfler or Dave Gilmour?
Im happy to accept all opinions as perfectly valid - dont want to take anything away from the great man, im a huge fan! Im just slightly tired of those that follow being dismissed as never capable of being as good as him.

Must have missed it then! Well anyway, im doing it again - I love Hendrix, im just questioning why others arent up there as the best!! I would have to have Gilmour as my no1, perhaps followed by Knopfler, and then Slash.

Its been done in the music section big thread on it, no matter where it is Jimi was years ahead of his time, nobody ever mastered controlled feed-back and I don't think they ever will, a legend that died before his time
