White Christmas Anniversary

This week is the celebrated anniversary of the recording by Bing Crosby's 'White Christmas' from the film/musical of the same name.

The record first appeared on the American Pop Charts this week (10th October 1942) and holds the world record for the weeks in the charts of any record ever produced.

The way the music industry structure has charged in the last few years I can't see this ever being beaten.

Re: White Christmas Anniversary

The American Charts started on the 27th of July in 1940 for 78's and 45's. The first number one was 'I'll Never Smile Again' by the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra with Frank Sinatra and the Pied Pipers on vocals.

Re: White Christmas Anniversary

Also this week it's 50 years since the Beatles first entered the charts with Love me do... seems like only yesterday!

Re: White Christmas Anniversary

If you type into a search engine 'Billboard No 1s' a list comes up - click on 'List of number-one hits (United States)' and a Wikipedia page will give you all the number ones right up to date.

Also, if you have signed up to 'Google Apps' you can even look at copies of Billboard Magazine from 1942 onwards.

Re: White Christmas Anniversary

Also, there is a website called 'Charts All Over The World' which is a cracker.

Click on USA and then click 'Billboard Single Charts this day 5-10-15-... 65 years age.'

This site is great - IMO.

Re: White Christmas Anniversary

I help to run our local community centre and in it we have a DVD projector which projects films onto the wall.

Last Christmas-time we showed 'White Christmas' and Disney's 'A Christmas Carol' (the Jim Carrey version) - and our biddies loved it.
