2012 Prediction League; Game 29 v AFC Wimbledon (home)

Accrington Stanley

V

AFC Wimbledon

2012/13 Prediction League – Game 29; v AFC Wimbledon (home)

11 points after 13 games ; 15 points from their next 13 (7 of them in their last 3 ); joint worst goal-difference in League Two (-18) ; sacked their long-serving manager in September, replacing him with ex Crazy Gang Wimbledon and Watford MF Neal Ardley in mid October; 23rd in the table , with exactly one point per game so far (26/26) – as against our 1.07 , which - over a full season – would give us 49 points (and no-one’s been relegated with 49 points since we came back up in 2006 ); their two games in hand should, logically, equal 2 points (28/28) – and we’ve got 30, so that’s ok ……….and that’s before we beat them on Saturday to open the gap up again . And Rochdale – on results, not points – is officially the worst team in the League, having lost 8 of their last 10 ………. And the Fat Boy thinks he can still do a job for any League Two side, but if he doesn’t get a new club by the end of the month he’ll have to find himself a (proper) job ………..So there!

They do quite well when they play York , and badly when they play Oxford (and us – see below) ; bet you didn’t know that? Their biggest League win of the season was 3-0 at York, and they then put them out of the FA Cup in Round One, 4-3 aet after a 1-1 at Bootham Crescent ………. Against that, two of the three times (so far) that they’ve shipped three goals in the league were against Oxford (3-2 away, 3-0 at home) …… and that’s without the 3-1 loss at Morecambe, and also without the 0-4 home reverse by Southend, and the consecutive early-season defeats by 5-1 (at Bradford) and 6-2 (at Burton) …………The Wombles also haven’t managed to score more than 3 in any League fixture, and they’ve only managed that three times, beating York (3-0, above) and winning 3-2 at Torquay and 3-1 at the Pirate;, they’ve got just 38 goals in 31 games, conceding 49 at the same time.

Their home record is the worst of all 24 League Two clubs – 2 wins, 3 draws and 8 defeats, scoring 12 and conceding 22; away, they’ve managed to win 5, draw 2 and lose 6, with a goal difference of 18 for, 26 against, meaning that their 23rd place (26 points) comes from a record of 7 wins, 5 draws and 14 losses, scoring 30 and conceding 48 ………….and one of those home losses, of course, was to us - by 2-1 on 29th September, Podge and Murph putting us 2 up before we generously let them score one, just so they wouldn’t get upset

They’ve signed a few in recent weeks; ex Wimbledon, Spurs, Chelsea, Leeds, Doncaster and Scotland GK Neil Sullivan – now 42 – is there on loan, as is West Ham’s 19 year-old striker Paul McCallum, once of Dulwich Hamlet and last season on loan at Coleydale; ‘signed up proper’ are free agent Ryan Hervel, a midfielder released by Kettering (who have bigger money problems than us! ) and ex Bury, Millwall, Stoke and Leeds MF Peter Sweeney (28); ‘back home’ – he played for them in pre-League days before joining Coventry in 2009 – comes LB Chris Hussey (24). Out, to Newport County, went striker Christian Anthony Hillard Jolley (24), who played there on loan before Christmas, scoring 5 in 5, and was then the subject of some hardball negotiations, being recalled to the Wombles on 14th December before signing permanently and moving to Welsh Wales on January 11th.

They aren’t going to win any of the Cups this year; they went out of the Cockup 3-1 at Stevenage and the Tinpot 2-1 at Southend, both in Round 1, and after their triumph over mighty York they fell at the next FA Cup hurdle, losing to their (notional) ancestors (MK Dons, in case you’ve forgotten) 2-1

As far as our
(League) head-to-head goes, it’s game, set and match to us; last year we beat them 2-0 away (Podge on 3 mins, Lindfield on 23) and 2-1 at home (Luke Joyce on 3 mins (again!) and SuperSub Will Hatfield on 80 (the earliest goal he scored in any game, I think); this season, as mentioned, we won at their place 2-0 (Podge on 25, Murphy on 78); P3 W3 D0 L0 F6 A2 Pts9 ……………..Doesn’t get a lot better than that!

Their goals have been spread round; Byron Harrison (25), a striker for whom they paid Stevenage their (the Wombles’) record transfer fee, and who’s just coming back from injury, has 9; Jack Midson (29) – semi pro for most of his career, until Oxford signed him into the League (and he’s also had loans at Southend and Barnet, so he knows what it’s like to suffer) – has 7; loanee Paul McCallum has 4; three others – Stacy Long, Charlie Strutton and Rachid Yussuf – each have 3, and 7 more feature on the list, one of them with 2 goals, and 6 of them with one each

The deadline for entries is, as ever, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3pm on Saturday 19th January. Truth is that neither of us is going to be promoted (on current form – prove me wrong!), but either could – on the ‘any team can beat any other team’ argument – go on a run and be well safe before Easter ; we’ve won more than them, have a better goal difference than them, and have the evil eye over them big-style …………So bring it on!

Good luck to everyone …… Keep the Faith!…… and thanks for playing!

Before he went away, Cashy left a prediction of 1-1; if he's back before kick-off, and wants to change his mind ...............................

And Ack 94V, being of positive disposition and unsound mind, thinks we'll win it 2-1

Keep the Faith!

No scores whatsoever, match off due to frozen pitch! will put in a prediction when match is eventually played. BTW sensible decision by the club to get pitch inspection today in light of the weather forecast.
