2012 Prediction League; Game 41 v Wycombe (away)

Accrington Stanley

2012/3 Prediction League; Game 41 v Wycombe (away)

When this ...........
  • "Wycombe have had a court hearing for a winding-up petition from HM Revenue & Customs adjourned until Monday, 13 May. BBC Sport East understands HMRC are satisfied the club have arrangements in place to pay a six-figure tax bill."
…........…is your club’s major news headline, you’re probably not having a memorable season ……… (mind you, ours is currently “Gillingham give Accrington fans free pies”, so we can talk ……… )

Frankly, not a lot’s been going on at Adams Park recently; three of their early-season loan / short-term signings are still there – Spurs’ Scottish u21 GK Jordan Archer (20), QPR’s Portuguese-born winger/MF Bruno Andrade (19) (born in Viseu, apparently – no doubt he knows where that is, ‘cos I haven’t a clue) and ex Colchester, Reading, Luton and Leyton Orient (etc etc) striker Dean Lance Morgan (29), who arrived from Chesterfield ……….. Charlton’s Ade Azeez (18), an England u19 striker, went back to the Addicks, and then out on loan to the Orient (Leyton, not the “real” Orient) ………… Striker Richard Logan (30), whom they signed in the summer from Exeter (where he hit 47 in 95 games), hit 0 in 10 for the Chairboys , and has gone searching for pastures new (by mutual consent, naturally) …….. In – the only New Boy – has come QPR’s central MF / RB Michael Harriman (20), on loan to the end of the season.

No majestic Cup runs to cheer the fans and fill the coffers; First round defeats at Watford (1-0 aet) in the CapOne and at Crewe (4-1) in the FA Cup; they did Do It Unto Pompey (3-1 away) in the Tinpot Round Two (after a bye in Round One), but then lost 2-0 at Yeovil in the QF ………… 4 ties, all away ……….. And you can’t really shout much about Doing It Unto Pompey these days – with a bit of luck and a following wind, we’ll be Doing It Unto Pompey ourselves next season …………..

After a dreadful start to the campaign and a change of manager (the two things being connected ) they came to our place in mid December, played before 1050 fans, had Matt McClure sent off and still beat us 2-0 ; that put them 17th, with 26 points from 22 games ……… The sort of season they’ve been having, there hasn’t been much of a run of wins (4 plus a draw in five in Feb / March being as good as it got) ……… In their last 8 games they’ve had just two wins (Fleetwood 1-0 at Adams Park, and Torquay 2-1 away), a 2-2 draw at Rotherham, and 5 defeats – 1-0 at Bradford, 4-1 at Rochdale, 1-0 at Bristol Rovers, and by 2-1 at home to Southend and 3-0 at home to Bradford – 7 points from 8 games, 7 scored and 14 conceded ; and they haven’t won in their last 3 ……………

Over the season to date their record stands at 14 wins, 7 draws and 17 defeats – 45 scored, 54 conceded; at home, its 7 wins, 5 draws and 7 losses, 24 scored and 21 conceded …………. Their 49 points gives them 15th place, and – in all but theoretical possibilities – the retention of their League status for next season. Lucky Ducks!

Head-to-head, we’re just behind over the seasons; 4 wins for them, 3 for us, with 2 draws. No high-scoring games either – 2-0 is the biggest margin, and there’s never been more than 3 goals in a game ……. Boring or what?

They’ve netted 45 goals in the League, and 4 more in the Cups; 49 in all from 42 games; leading scorers are Youth product striker Matt McClure (21) with 10; Joel Grant (25) – a MF (with Watford, Crewe and Aldershot (where he previously played for (former) Wycombe Manager Gary Waddock) on his cv) has 9; and Dean Morgan (29) – see above - has 8; one other scorer has 3, five have two each, and 6 more have burst the onion bag but once per capita so far this season ………………

The deadline for entries is, as always, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3.00pm on Good Friday, 29th March (soon be Christmas! ); Wycombe went up to League 1 at the end of 2008/9, and came straight back down ; they went up again in 2010/11, and came straight back down ……… nothing suggests that they’re going back up this season – but then, nor are we . This game means much more to us than it probably does to them, so here’s a chance for a sneaky/unexpected extra point …………. Or 3!

Good Luck to everyone …… Keep the Faith! ……and thanks for playing!
