Well, I can dream, can't I? I wonder which is less likely?

The latter - 33% achievement (Chubby's eased off
) versus 50%. Anyway, back to business ..... things got gradually better over the period of my absence, but given the start they could hardly have got worse
….
There were 8 pessimists when the Cobblers came to town, but no-one was nearly pessimistic enough to pick up a maximum
– so 4 points went to the people who thought we’d get one on our way to defeat, that was AngeB, Deeayess, Exile on Spencer St and StanleyAccrington (CFSA). LongLostSon, OutbackOzzy, Teach and Yerself took 3 for totally inaccurate pessimism. 7 others just got a bonus point for our goal. The only positional changes at the top of the table saw Deeayess move up from 4th to 3rd and Teach from 11th to 7th, but Ange doubled her lead at the summit to 8 points over nul point Nige
. ChrisR joined the game for the first time, but failed to trouble the scorer (and hasn't been back since).
The trip to Plymouth produced the lowest number of posts on the thread I can remember
, though 8 default entries kept the total up to 34 – 18 for stopping the rot, 9 for getting something and 7 for the slide continuing – which of course it did
. This time, Bdc got the max 5, Football19, Teach and CFSA took 4, and Accybeme, Deeayess and NigeB just the 3. 14 other bonus points for their goal. Positional changes in the Top 10 all down to countback, most notably Bdc’s move from 8th to 5th helped by his 7 maximums
(next best AngeB and Tommy McQueen with 4). On which note RIP to the original Tommy – I too saw him play back in the day. The Bs personal battle at the top continued, with Nige clawing back 2 points this time. And worth noting that at this point CSFA had amassed 20 points from just 6 entries in the competition, with 5 correct results
, 1 spot-on and 4 other bonus points. If only you’d been in it from the start …….
So on to Oxford, and a similar result in the optimism stakes – 22 for a win, 8 for a draw and 7 for a disaster – but a totally different result on the park thanks to Terry G’s first repayment for faith shown
. Once again little change at the top of the table as none of the previous Top 9 thought we would win
, and the Top 4 all thought we would lose
, though they all picked up a bonus for our goal. The only significant movement was LongLostSon’s drop from 9th to 13th, overtaken by four optimists in one go. Maximums went to Accymad, DaveinGermany, JimsLad, Kiwi John, Ossy Kid (by default) and Exile on Spencer St. 4 points for 6 of us for Stanley’s clean sheet.
And finally Southend. The Oxford win didn’t see a surge in optimism, with only 15 expecting an unlikely win over the southern Shrimpers, against 11 for them and 10 on the fence. This time it was none of the Top 7 who saw the win (thanks Piero and Terry, again) coming
, but the next 4 did. 4 points lifted Accybeme from 8th to 5th, while max 5s (by default) for Mab and Alvin lifted them from 9th= to 6th=. Other maximums came for DaveinGermany (again), Leylandii, Stevie R, Proccy Fan and Sparkie (by default). Other 4s for Chubbyman, Dav007, D3N, Redash and Wynonie. Oh, and having noticed how well CSFA was doing, he’s only got 1 point from the last 2 games – sorry
.
So its roll on the Robins. They’re not doing well lately. Does this make for any easy win
ahead of tricky games to come? Or will we, as usual, stuff this one up
before taking 9 points from Burton, Luton and Shrewsbury? Answers on D3N’s next thread, please. On Stanley On!!
