2017/18 Prediction League; Game 26 v Morecambe (home)
Accrington Stanley

Morecambe
2017/18 Prediction League; Game 26 v Morecambe (home)
On Friday night Morecambe played Yeovil at the Globe (Stadium, not Shakespearian Theatre); they’d lost their previous three games (2-1 away at both Barnet and Mansfield (although not on the same day) and 4-1 at home to Notts County), and they went 2-0 down before half time ........... in a second half of two halves they turned it round, put the ball in the Yeovil net four times, and turned 0-2 into 4-3 ............ this week’s starter for 10; when was the last time Morecambe scored four times in a League game, and who were they playing?
Five left the Globe in the summer, and three of them used to play for us (Lee Molyneux, Peter Murphy and Liam Wakefield; Lee went to Guiseley and Liam to Boston Utd, Peter of course having to retire; the other two were Paul Mullin (where do I know that name from?) who went to Swindon, and Ryan Edwards who joined the Pilgrims .............. Eight signed up, four of whom were strikers; Reece Deakin arrived from Airbus UK Broughton (he walked, I believe, because the plane couldn’t land at Morecambe Aerodrome), Adam Campbell came from Notts Co, Vadaine Oliver from York and – after the start of the season – Adam McGurk from Cambridge; they also got a CB from Bolton, a LB from Carlisle, Garry Thompson back home, and New Zealand-born CB Stephen Old from Göteborgs Atleoch Idrottssällskap, a Swedish Second Division side known as The Mackerels (which I personally think sounds a bit fishy)
Four new strikers should, of course, have the goals flying in from all parts of the field; actually, the Shrimps have managed 24 League goals in 25 games, which includes their having failed to trouble the scorers in 10 of those 25 games. 24 goals is joint second-worst in the League (alongside Vegan Greenpeace, and one behind Crawley); Coventry – currently 5th in the table – have only scored 27 in 25, but then again they’ve only conceded 16!) In Morecambe’s (non) defence, they’ve kept 6 clean sheets, but unfortunately they also failed to score in 4 of those 6 games ................ goals win games!
Their current home record is W5 D2 L6 GF14 GA18, seven of them being shipped in the last two games (notice the nautical reference? Clever or what!); away, it’s W1 D5 L6 GF10 GA18 – the one win being 2-0 at Chesterfield in mid-October; overall then, P25 W6 D7 L12 GF24 GA36 for 25 points and 21st place – four points clear of Chesterfield and five above Barnet and Vegan Greenpeace ........ we won at their place earlier in the season (2-1, goals by Billy Whizz and that nice Jordan Clark, with Morecambe scoring via CryBaby in the 25th minute of time added on); last season we did the same thing – winning 2-1 away, with the goals that day scored by Shay McBratfud – but we managed to lose at Fortress Wham (3-2, having been 2-0 up – goals by Billy Whizz x 2) ......
They have no further interest in this season’s FA Cup, don’t Morecambe, having beaten Hartlepool 3-0 at home but then lost in Round 2, 0-2 at Shrewsbury ...... Hartlepool, by the way, are presently 16th in the Bananarama, below AFC Fylde on GD (Fylde having two games in hand) but above Leyton Orient in 19th, although there is an 8 point gap between Barrow in 20th, and Chester, Guiseley, Torquay and Soilyhull Moors who make up the bottom four ........ Soilyhull, I understand, were docked eight million points for pretending that there are Moors near where they come from (!) ................. The Shrimps are also out of the EFL Cup, beaten 4-3 at Barnsley in Round One, and ended up bottom of their group in the EFLTroffy with two losses and a defeat on penalties, which appears to be some kind of win (???????) .................... speaking of which, the last time they scored four in a League game before beating Yeovil on Friday was on 7th January 2017, when they beat Notts County 4-1 at home ............... the same Notts County who beat THEM 4-1 at the Globe on Boxing Day ............. what goes around comes around!
Deadline for entries is, as always, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3.00pm on New Year’s Day (soon be Christmas again!) ............. having remembered where the net is, and that we’re supposed to score more than the opposition do, we’re on a roll again ......... but we are the only team in the top half of the table to have lost four of their last five (Swindon have only lost 3/5), and still have the Dunce’s Caps for 3 points out of 15 (shared with Barnet, while Vegan Utd have 1/15 and Chesterfield and Vegan Utd each have 4); Lincoln are now on their own in the Teacher’s Pet Stakes with 13/15, Colchester having 11 and Luton having 10 ............ and thank you to Portly Vale and Swindon for stuffing Luton and Notts Co respectively – neither of whom scored (Luton had two shots, one of them being on target) ......... I’m sure you’ll all agree that another win would be A Very Good Thing for the Stanley? Shall we see what we can do against Perfidious Albion (Morecambe Branch)?
Good luck to everyone! ........ Keep the Faith! ........... HNY! ............ And thanks for playing!

Re: 2017/18 Prediction League; Game 26 v Morecambe (home)
It was pleasing to see Morecambe score four and pick up three points. I doubt they'll do it against us, though, so I'll go for a 2-0 Stanley win, please.

After their miracle comeback against Yeovil, they'll be up for this - but so will we!
2 - 1 to the S-T-A-N-E-R-L-E-Y!
