2017/18 Prediction League; Game 32 v Coventry City (away)
Coventry City
V
Accrington Stanley
2017/18 Prediction League; Game 32 v Coventry City (away)
So; on Tuesday we played the side with probably (I haven’t looked, TBH) the best away record in League Two (Swindon) and beat them 2-1, aided by Billy Whizz’s eleventy billionth penalty of the season; on Saturday we play the side with probably the best or one of the best home records – Coventry; P15 W10 D2 L3 GF22 GA9 – 32 of their 50 points at the Ricoh (away it’s W5 D3 L7) .............. Home defeats inflicted by Newport, Vegan Greenpeace and Mansfield, and each of those games finished 0-1! Their 50 points have them in 8th, one point behind Swindon and Exeter, but with a notably better GD ......
Best defensive record in the Division; 23 conceded in 30 (next best is Luton’s 30 – we’ve conceded 37); Crawley, Cambridge, Grimsby, PV, Morecambe and the bottom three have scored fewer than their 35 (Cambridge’s 28 is the worst, and Grimsby, Morecambe and Barnet have 29). They’ve kept 11 (League) clean sheets, plus 3 more in the FA Cup, and failed to score 11 times in the League ................ in 17 of their games one of the teams hasn’t scored, and in three more both sides failed to score; ten of their League games have ended 1-0 ....... and they’ve lost six of them!
The pre-season highlights were probably the 1-0 win at Mickleover Sports and the postponed game at Leamington Spa (which was a DISGRACE!); the highlights of the season proper would be the FA Cup run, which has seen them beat two sides from the Bananarama, then beat Stoke 2-1and the MK Dons; 5th Round draw has them at Brighton ..... EFL Cup lasted one round (defeat by Blackburn by 3-1), and they bombed out of the EFLTroffy at the Group stages (my money’s on Lincoln to win that!)
They’ve won 4 and lost three of their last seven; most recently they were undone by Vegan Greenpeace (2-1); we played them at ours in mid-October – first time for a long time – and we scored (Sean McConville) and they didn’t ...............
Transfer window went by largely unnoticed; they ProperSigned nobody – their last signing was Tom Davies (ex Stanley) from Pompey and let CB Jordan Turnbull go to Northampton on a free having let him spend the first half of the season at St Patrick’s Thistle ............... they LoanSigned AMF Josh Barrett from Reading and winger Jordan Maguire-Drew from the Seagulls and let Ghanaian GK Corey Addai go out on loan to Hendon, and that – pretty much – was that
Speaking of the Bananarama, did you see that Wrexham now top the pile, even if it is only by GD from Macclesfield (who have a game in hand) ....... and Kirkham and Wesham (aka AFC Fylde) are 9th – one point off the playoffs .......... and play Leyton Orient at home next week ............. How are the Mighty Fallen – and how aren’t the Mighty getting back into the League; Torquay look like a lost cause to stay in the Conference Proper (7 points off the dotted line), and Hartlepool are apparently being investigated by the Feds, and have supposedly had a Winding Up petition from The Revenue men (which I think they were paying off today, from what I read.)
Deadline for entries is, as always, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3.00pm on Saturday 10th February ................. it’s an old but true saying that Goals Win Matches, and they’ve got but 30 (leading scorers are Irish MF Michael Doyle and defender Rod McDonald (each with 8 – 6 & 7 respectively in the League) and Haitian forward Duckens Nazon with 6 (5) whereas we’ve scored 53, and have three on the League Two leading goal scorers’ list – and, by the way, Rodney Whizz is now three clear of Danny Hylton (18:15). If we can match their DA Defence (Duck’s Arse, if you’ve forgotten) then we can realistically hope to shoot them down at the OK Corral. Ready, steady, FIRE!
Good luck to everyone! .............. Keep the Faith! ............. And thanks for playing!

Looking forward to seeing Lady Godiva streaking across the pitch.
Think there massive home crowd will swing it for them.
