2024/25 Prediction League; Game 36 v Newport (home)
Accrington Stanley
V
Newport County
2024/25 Prediction League Game 36 v Newport County (home)
Starter for Ten; earlier in 2025 Everton player Iliman Ndiaye was booked by the Ref in their game at Brighton …….. his “crime”, after scoring, was to “flap his arms in front of the home fans" (known as “Seagulls”, of course) …………. The actual offence is “approaching the spectators ….. acting in a provocative, derisory or inflammatory way …………..” Guilty as charged!
In 2014, Roma RB Alessandro Florenzi was booked for a reason even more stupid, and in 2016 Swedish player Adam Lindin Ljungkvist went in the book for (probably) the silliest reason ever ………… but what did Messrs Florenzi and Ljungkvist actually DO to upset the Ref?
After another defeat, this time at Barrow, our recent record is W2 D2 L6, putting us on 36 points – 14 shy of Val’s Viginti – and 3 above Tranmere, seven above Morecambe, and nine above Carlisle, with a game in hand on Tranmere and Morecambe …………….. GD is -15, where those below us are -28, -23 and -29 ……………… Newport beat us 3-1 back at theirs in August (our goal from Shaun Whalley (again!), and are currently 17th on 43 points ….. meanwhile Colchester, who were dicing with the Trapdoor to Oblivion back in the early part of the season are unbeaten in their last ten, and four points off the play-offs (so it can be done!)
Head-to-Head is W3 D6 L4 (wins in March 15, March 16 and April 24) and we haven’t scored more than three in any game ……….
Starter for Ten No 2, then; Blackburn Rovers lost 7-0 to Fulham in a League game in November 2023 ………………. Before that, when did they last lose 7-0 in the League?
Clwb Pêl-droed Casnewydd was founded in 1912 (isn’t it), and began life in the Southern League before being invited to become founder members of the Football League Third Division in 1920. They failed re-election in 1931, but were elected back into the Football League the next year. They struggled for the next few seasons, but went on to be crowned Third Division South champions in 1938–39. World War II meant they had to wait until the 1946–47 season to take their place in the Second Division, though they were relegated at the end of the campaign. They were relegated out of the Third Division in 1962. In the 1979–80 season, under manager Len Ashurst, they secured promotion out of the Fourth Division and won the Welsh Cup for the first time. They reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup Winner's Cup the next year. In the 1980s they suffered financial difficulties with a double relegation costing them their Football League place in 1988 and the club went out of business in February 1989.
They were originally nicknamed “The Ironsides” due to Newport being home to Lysaght's Orb Works steel works, they’re now “The Exiles; manager is Portuguese Nelson Jardim; last season they were 18th. . Leading scorer is Bobby Kamwa with 8; five new signings in January 2025, none of whom I’ve heard of before
Games are coming thick and fast now, with Gillingham gracing our home ground on Saturday (all I can say is 7-4!) and we still ain’t safe!
Deadline for entries is, as always, scheduled kick-off time, which is 7.45 pm on Tuesday 11th March ………………. And Signor Florenzi was booked for jumping into the crowd to hug his grandmother, and Mr Ljungkvist was yellow carded for “unsportsmanlike flatulence” (if anyone knows what “sportsmanlike flatulence” is, please drop me a line) ………… and before the Fulham game, Blackburn’s previous 7-0 League defeat was at Bramall Lane in January 1897 .............. and no, I wasn't there!
Good luck to everyone! ............ Keep the Faith! .................. and Thanks for playing!
