2024/25 Prediction League Game 5 v Notts Co (away)

Starter for Ten; Among Notts County’s “Famous Former Players” are Kaspar Schmeichel, Peter Reid, Justin Fashanu, Jack Grealish and Andy Gray ……….. Grealish and Gray were on loan. But which of the Famous Five only played one game for the Magpies?

They’re currently 7th in League Two, one of three unbeaten sides (the others are Gillingham and Tranmere); they have eight points from four games (W2 D2), which is four times what we have, and they’ve conceded 4 to our 11 (League only) …………. Head to head is 7 to them, 6 draws, and 6 to us, although you should know that of the last ten games in League and Cup going back to 2014 they’ve only won one (Sept 23) to our five ………

They are, of course, the Oldest Professional Team in the World blah blah, older that the FA blah blah, won the FA Cup in 1894, beating Bolton 4-1 blah blah, and were the inspiration for Juventus’ kit. However, they GreasyPoled out of the EFL in 2019 for the first time in their 157-year history, having had at least ten managers of varyingly short duration in less than seven years and myriad problems generally

On 27 January 2019, with County bottom of League Two, then owner Alan Hardy officially put the club up for sale, though not before attracting the attention of the FA for (accidentally) including a picture of his penis in a screenshot posted to Twitter, which shows a staggering failure to check before hitting “send”

Second Starter for Ten, then; for what reason is former Port Vale and Charlton player Jimmy Oakes Famous in the Annuals …… sorry, Annals, of Football?

And had you seen that Morecambe have played four League fixtures and lost each of them 1-0? So we conceded 11 and have two points, and they conceded four and have Nul Points ….. “We’re gonna score one more than you ……. Nah Na Nah, Nah Na Nah ….”

Speaking of which, their leading goal scorer ever is Les Bradd with 137; Tony “Have I told you Hateley that I love you” is on 114, and the Great Tommy Lawton has 103 …. Most appearances award goes to Albert Iremonger with 601 …. In the summer they signed eleven players (5x CBs, 5x MFs and a GK), including Jacob Bedeau from Morecambe, Robbie Cundy from Barnsley, and L. Ness (Lucas, not Loch) a CB from Charlton ……. Four left (for money), most notably striker Macauley Langstaffe (who scored 42 for them last season) to Millwall. Manager is Stuart Maynard, owners are Alexander and Christoffer Reedtz ……………

With a total of 14 promotions and 17 relegations, no club has moved between the divisions of the Football League on more occasions than Notts County.

Deadline for entries is, as always, scheduled kick-off time, which is 3.00 pm on Saturday 7th September ……………. We could do with parking the bus and also unlocking their back door. However, remember what happens to He Who Has the Last Laugh …….

And the one-appearance Wonder was Sol Campbell, in 2009, citing false promises (and Kaspar Schmeichel apparently travelled to away matches – he played 43 times in all - by private jet) ………… and the Famous 1932 player Jimmy Oakes, was the only reported case of a player playing for both sides in the same League Fixture ……….. on Boxing
Day he played for PV against the Addicks, but the game was abandoned due to fog. By the time of the replayed game, he’d signed – and played – for Charlton. Sadly for PV – who’d been 4-1 up when fog struck - they lost the replayed game 2-1!

Good luck to everyone! ……….. Houd het Gelouf ! …………And Bedankt voor het spleen!

I'm afraid I have a bad feeling about this one BUT no matter what my head tells me, my heart won't let me predict a loss - I'll go for a 1 - 1 draw please
