Accrington 100% Scottish team 1955/56 season?
Hi everyone. I'm a Palace fan but have always folowed the fortunes of the Stanley, it was so good to se you back in the League again.
I remember the shock back in 1962 (was it?) when you droped out at Headington United came in as Oxford to replace you. But the legend never died, thank God.
Have a question - I subscribe to a Yahoo chatroom for 1960s/70s football memories. Someone has posted on it that Accrington in the 1955/56 season fielded an XI entirely of players born in Scotland. Is this true, and who were they?
And was your Manager at the time a Scotsman...
If true this must have been unique in English football history, no doubt noted at the time. We are also wondering the last time an English league team put out a starting XI all born in England..at least a team in the top division.
Any help welcome. Good luck this season. We don't ned it right now, but god wishes to Dougie Freedman at Bolton, or don't you talk about them?

Re: Accrington 100% Scottish team 1955/56 season?
Without checking the books, I don't know which season in the late 50s it was. Certainly the manager at that time, Walter Galbraith, was a Scot.I'm sure someone on here will provide the exact info you request.

Re: Accrington 100% Scottish team 1955/56 season?
Think it was 1955 in a match at Spotland where we fielded a 100% Scottish team. The only English club who had done it before was Sunderland. Can't check the line up as "Oggy" borrowed my Breedon about 5 years ago and then never returned it, before vanishing from the face of the earth.
