Re: Accrington Stanley - Exactly
and this is me making my first contribution ...
Have to agree with Doug. The disappointment for me in watching the programme was having to listen to the 'patronising' tones of Stuart Hall.
Right! that's me joining the forum.

Re: Accrington Stanley - Exactly
I thought having such a well known personality as Stuart Hall doing the voice over, added a certain gravitas.

I saw it shining through the club house windows.
(Ok I was wrong, someone else in your spot in a yellow jacket, waving a scarf.)

Re: Accrington Stanley - Exactly
Personally i thought it was brilliant...........easily on par with anything previously written by Peter Kay........reminded me of early Phoenix Nights/ That Peter Kay Thing..........errr, oh sorry it was meant to be serious........

we know its a documentary, but as the reds are always trying to increase the lowest fanbase in the league, it is n ideal oppertunity to do so, was talking to 2 of the guys that went down barnet, on friday night n both felt disgusted at how E.W. came across on tv.

Re: Accrington Stanley - Exactly
90% of the people where disgusted by it from what I can tell... but thats the way he is.. anything else would be false.. are you advocating that he should have put on an act for the cameras? that would have come accross even worse.
Theres a reason its on late at night
I think your all going to be even more peeved by next weeks episode.. really behind the scenes Personally I htink the whole thing was a bad idea from start to finish.

Re: Accrington Stanley - Exactly
i agree about the percentage, cos i have spoken to quite a few all of the same mind. but disagree it was a bad idea, i am advocating a bit of common sense should have been used, i was there the first time round in 62 n it was heartbreaking, everyone knows what a shoestring the club operates on, so good publicity could certainly have helped a bit, its not rocket science.

Re: Accrington Stanley - Exactly
kids shouldn't be up at that time of night
they hear worse than that in the playground
football is/was/should be (take your pick) the game of the working class and for me the language wasn't a problem although I wont let my 7 year old watch it
I thought Eric came across as quite funny although hard to deal with - so its true, why hide from that
The club came across as tinpot and amatuerish - but we are and we don't hide it. It also showed that we have come from very humble beginnings and have come a long way in a short time. Anybody who can't see that is either blind, stupid or both
The first episode was neither bad nor good, but it was entertaining and I am sure that people around the county will have enjoyed it for what it was. It is probably an opportunity for the club to try to capitalise on although despite the best efforts of David and Gavin I fear that they won't.
But above all I think that it proves that Accrington Stanley still have box office appeal.
I await the letters page in fridays Observer
