Accrington Stanley Ladies FC

Accrington Stanley Ladies FC have this week withdrawn from the LFA Womens County League and made the sad decision to fold.

This comes after a torrid season that saw just 2 games played before christmas due to the abysmal weather. After starting the season with 22 players signed on, the team took the decision to fold after playing the last 4 games with between 8-10 players per game. Player participation has dwindled for several reasons, but in the main its due to the change in the financial climate forcing people to work whenever they can, although the 3 month layoff between games at the end of October to the end of January did not help either.

Its a very sad time for me personally, as it was Karen Faz and myself that originally set up the club and both played for and managed it in its first season, before handing over our responsibilities to the dynamic trio of Chris Boden, Dan Jewell and Ben Shorrock, the management team that managed to get us promoted in only our second season. Unfortunately five seasons on from our debut we are sadly forced to retire gracefully!!!

Many thanks go out to all those who have helped us along the way, with special mention going to Vic Allonby, Hurns Bakery, Giftprint and the Stanhill Foundation for their team sponsorships. Kipax and Julie also get an honarary mention for all their work with our website and for some of the best pictures (and funniest faces!!) I will ever see of womens football!

I personally would like to thank all those of you on here and at the club who ask how we're doing whenever they see me, your support has been very much appreciated.

Alas, it is the end.

Sarah 'Sparkie' McNaught, GK no.31

Yes, it is sad. I hope you enjoyed your 5 seasons. Maybe you could resurrect the team in the future. Best of luck.

Always Sad when Local Football teams are unable to carry on for differing reasons

It is a sad inditement on Today's world really that people just don't have the time to spare for lot's of different reasons

People who run Football Teams have my upmost respect for all the time and passion they commit to on a voluntary basis because that's where it all starts at the Grass Roots Level.

As does anybody else who commits time to help other people

Was a huge shock as i know how hard and determined sparkie and the main stay of the rest of the team have worked very hard to keep the team progressing thro the seasons. Very sad indeed, as we're one of the last sponsors of the current team. Like kiwi says here's hoping that the pheonix from the flames happens for our ladies team.
