Question Accrington Stanley Squad 1977-1978

Can anyone tell me the names of the players in the Stanley squad between 1977-1978?

Or better still still, can anyone point me in the right direction on how to obtain this information?

Much Appreciated

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad 1977-1978

I suspect I have the access to the most information from this era. Sadly I am old enough to have watched most of the matches in this season when we won the Lancashire Combination for the last time ( before transfering to the new Cheshire League Div 2).
In this season we defeated Gt. Harwood ( then in the NPL) in the 1/4 final of the LFA Cup ( now the united co-op trophy) before losing to Wigan 3-4 in the semi final. This was Wigan's last season before election to the Football League 4th Division.

We also played Blackburn Rovers 1st team (part of the David Hargreaves transfer deal ( 2K in think) and drew 3-3 in front of a crowd of 900)

The only way to get information from this era is from the archieved records at Accy libarary ( via the Accy Observer)

I have in my collection 25 home programmes and the Gt. Harwood and Wigan away programmes.

May I ask why you are interested in this season??

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad 1977-1978

Hi there,
My father, John Hubberstey turns 70 this year and I am hoping someone is able to help me find any memorabilia or anything related to his time with Accrington Stanley. If there is anyone out there who remembers him or knows someone who used to play with him and would perhaps like to get together for a reunion type thing please don't hesitate to let me know.
Many thanks in anticipation

Re: Accrington Stanley Squad 1977-1978

That LFA semi-final at Wigan was brutal. Stanley 3-1 up with 10 minutes to go.... we all thought we was home and dry. I have never sat on a more despondent coach home than that one.

The Blackburn game was freezing cold mid-week, we weren't allowed to stand up and stamp our feet to get warm, but we all wanted to see Haggis do well, rest his soul.

I think the Harwood game was after a draw at our place, I have some of the footage on cine8 somewhere.

We played Knowsley in the cup v league winners at the end of the season, I have the team picture with me on it as sub, we only had 10 players, I think Dave Baron turned out, and I was used with someone elses name that was registered! I was kit boy at the time.

Very knowledgable stuff, as always on this site, from the contributors here. Sorry I have only just seen the thread.
