Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
I don't often go first, but it was a home game for me .....
For a first game not knowing how we play, Smith looked OK and should pose a threat in the air. Won one cross easily but got under it. Good work rate on the ground. As long as we don't go back to route one just 'cos he's there .....
Overall pretty scrappy but some good confident quick passing around triangles - maybe too confident as tended to end in giving the ball away. Lost a lot of 50-50s in midfield with the exception of Coid who was my m-o-m.
They were hopeless in our box which helped us to survive a few scrambles. No mistakes by Dunbavin as far as I could see, bar a couple of dodgy clearances under pressure from loose backpasses.
Winnard did a good job with the armband and was very steady. Toto wasn't .... Amond worked his socks off.
Barnett nearly won it in the last couple of minutes with what would have been one of the goals of the week. But it would have been a steal.
Good food and beer at the Golden Lion.
Accy attendance announced as 87.
All in all, a grand day out!!

Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
Good points by Chimer, Smith did a good job up front and can only get better - like the look of him!!
Murph in midfield, Craig and Charlie on the bench - says it all to me!!!!!!!!!!!
Deano was great at the back and Podge was tireless upfront!!
Good point away from home, must get back to 3 at home!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
Just got back from the game and I am going to disagree with chimer (sorry!),thought the swirling wind played a big part in the game, they had it behind them in the first half and had the better of a scrappy game.thought Cody and pudge were off the pace,in particular when defending.
To be fair they played at an high tempo and pressed us all over the pitch, but as they tired we took control in the second half
It was obvious Hughes wasn't fully fit and struggled to get in the game and this put us at a bit of a disadvantage
Now the positives, toto took on board his short comings of last week to give a muched improved performance, and over all the team never stopped trying, even when things weren't going there way.
Draw was a fair result, and considering the off field distractions, and various players carrying injuries,I would settle for a point

I thought that you and I - plus others - had discussed this one more that one occasion!!
Charlie spent 15 mins on the pitch yesterday and looked good - 25 yarder in last couple of mins, could have won it!!!! - I do not need to tell you about Charlie
No doubt we will be discussing this at half time on Saturday??

Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
To me it makes sense to put Murphy in midfield in Proccy's absense; he adds height to the middle and works hard up and down the pitch. We need that balance in the midfield I think.
It's a shame for Charlie though as he's a quality player. The headache will only worsen when we have Hughes, Craney, Barnett, Joyce, Coid and Murphy all fully fit and available for a three-man midfield! He'll just have to keep working hard and impressing when he does get to play so he can push for a starting spot.
It's a shame for Craig also. He's been one of our best players this season in my view yet missed out to Evans yesterday. I haven't been overly impressed with Micah but you can't really drop a player who has been in there getting the messy goals.
It's a good headache to have as we have great strength in depth this season, as well as versatility among the players, which can only aid our bid for better things.

Re: Aldershot Town Match Thread
It was a strange one with Murph.I believe he will become a good holding midfielder, but Joycy seemed to be doing that role, although he did his job defensively.
Agree Charlie is better going forward, and I would have played Linfield instead of Podge, the reason being IMHO hes a better wideman, but Podge is a better front man.
Thought mcintyre had another solid game against a tricky winger as well.
