An intersting thing happened today

I took my children for a round of golf today.I rewarded my mediocrity with a handle of TUI.. I was wearing my Accy shirt and this bloke comes up to me and IDs himself as a Shrewsbury man ( thats 2 of the nutters here in the Bay-my neighbour being the other).
NOW THE INTERESTING BIT; He tells me that last night he was speaking to his brother back in Shrewsbury and that PAUL MULLINS is close to signing for them for more $$ than he gets at Stanley. However,PAUL MULLINS wants to stay at Accy but we won't offer him a 2 year deal-only 1 year.He is more concearned with the security a 2 year term gives than what Shrewsbury and, maybe 2 other clubs can offer for 1 year.ie. money ain't everything. I think MULLINS is 33,well if thats correct what the hell is the problem with a 2 or even 3 year deal???
From where I sit, the man is an Accrington institution, and Eric and co should be moving hell to accomodate him, especially as he has prooved he is more than up to the required standard in league 2.I do realise that the club must count there pennies and cents, but this guy is a godsend.
The circumstances of how I found this out were,to say the least, bizzare, but the guy had extensive knowledge on League 2 (and more) and try as I might,I couldn't 'trip him up'.

I hope that someone from the club comes on here and tells me its all bollocks and I see on the fishy site that sense has prevailed and Paul remains with us for two more seasons at least.

Its a small world.

Sadly, Kiwi, this fits in with a rumour I heard a few weeks ago, and have been hoping would just disappear.

I'm afraid it's the rumour that was buzzing around on Tuesday after the game, I've had everything crossed ever since that it doesn't happen. I agree with everything you say Kiwi - there's no way the club should let Mully go especially if the only sticking point is a 2 year contract, the lad more than deserves that. Accrington Stanley without Mully is unthinkable

Coley been on 2BR
Stanley have recieved a bid for Paul and there is a contract offer on the table from the Club, whether the offer is the one he wanted who knows

The guy is a legend and probably still has at least two years left at this level and the proof of that is that other Clubs are interested. He still has lots to offer and to let your Top scorer go at this stage of the Season would I think undermine any plans we have of the play offs

Paul has been a great servant to the Club and I have said previously he epitimises everything that is good about Accrington Stanley

Re: An intersting thing happened today

the guy deserves his testimonial.

I don't envisage Mully being the greedy sort of player, he is an honest hard working guy who wants what he deserves. He has grown up as a player and as a person with Accrington Stanley and has seen us rise and rise. He should end his career with us.

As far as a contract offer is concerned, so what if we don't (maybe) get full value for a two year contract? we have more than had is value over the last eight years. How many games has he missed in the eight years? no suspensions, no more than ten games through injury, I don't remember him ever being dropped and can recall him missing three or four games through 'work commitments' when we were part time. Almost four huindred games in eight years is 50 a season and he has a goal ratio of one in two.

Mr Mullin should receive the borough equivalent of a knighthood let alone a two year contract.

If Mullin goes then I can imagine a fair few fans going as well regardless of whether we sign back every player who ever left!

And if does go can we get him back for free at the end of the season?

.... and further more ..... if he does eventually have to go I sincerely hope we tell whoever has bought him that a) he can't play against us and b) that he plays one more game for us after the news breaks.

he deserves a leaving party from the faithfull

I remember one time he was dropped, it was away at Emely in an FA Cup Qualifying game and we lost.

Re: An intersting thing happened today

This would be my ultimate nightmare stanley wise... obviously we don't know what has being said behind the contract doors, but if the only stumbling block is the 2 year rather than 1 year, then flippin eck get him signed now!!

As macca has said he has more than deserved it, and he works his shorts off or should I say shirt as end of every season he ends with less shirt than he starts with

Im sure mullin wont go for the money because from what ive heard hes got quite a bit of dosh as he owns a company ? Correct me if im wrong. I think Mullin will choose loyalty as coleman has stuck by him.

Mullin is Mr Accrington Stanley FC and embodies everything this club is about. Dark days indeed if he leaves as he is the figurehead of the side and every attack goes through him.
