Another faux pas?
Just read Jimmy Bells comments in the telegraph. Not exactly what we wanted to hear!!
Bell: Accrington Stanley will be dealing in frees (From Lancashire Telegraph)
I do hope this is just the usual Flanagan drivel! If not then what players are going to accept being called ' dregs' by our assistant manager?

Re: Another faux pas?
I absolutely agree UK. When I saw it I thought, "There goes our "Engage mouth before brain" Assistant Manager once again" (Not for the first time!) However, I hoped it might pass by unnoticed. Personally, I felt that our team of dregs did pretty well last season. and if they're the kind of dregs we're getting, then bring 'em on!!

If he has actually said it, its the height of stupidity n will do nothing but harm to the confidence of players who remain. n may even make some who are considering staying sod off. not the brightest lamp on the street.

Re: Another faux pas?
Stanley are only going to pick up 2 types of players
Youngsters released by bigger clubs who want to make a name for themselves and will use stanley as a stepping stone
or
journeymen on a downward spiral who want one last shot at staying in the football league
I use to hope Stanley could pick up players from non league who where aspiring to greatness. After losing out on Baker to Stockport, I think we have to much competition who can offer bigger wages to progressive non league talents.
(McConville is the exception to the rule).

I disagree. We can compete for signatures. We are in the same position as many other clubs. added to the fact that some other clubs now have to spend within their means instead of being irresponsible with their business. it gives smaller clubs like Stanley and Dagenham a chance.

Daggers (wo have done brlliantly) are situated in London and have access to a far bigger pool of players.

Re: Another faux pas?
Why is there no non league side up north? some of the daggers side were garnered from 2 leagues below conference level.

Re: Another faux pas?
Bamber Bridge, Clitheroe, Chorley to name a few locally. Not sure how many players worth a gamble there would be there. Jordan Connerton banged a lot of goals in for Lancaster this season and is at Crewe now. Players like that could be worth a gamble.

Re: Another faux pas?
I suppose a lot depends on the Club's connectons with the Leagues, as to what information is collated and if anyone from the Club goes to watch them in acton thus appearing on the Club's Radar

I disagree, too. There is little difference between

Both are young men eager to have a career as professional footballers. Given the thousands of amateur and semi-professional players, there are bound to be some who would jump at a chance to sign a professional contract with ANY League club, despite the much-quoted low wages at Stanley. I happen to think that there will be some young players who will see beyond financial gain and see the other merits of playing for Stanley - tradition, constant improvement, family atmosphere, etc etc.
I used to like the idea of signing the occasional journeyman - but then we signed Graham Branch.

Probably because their management are prepared to cast the net further than Merseyside.
