Re: Asfc redz

Strange that this topic should arise the day after reading of the new official guidance strategy, Support for Spelling.

'I before e', except in the classroom - Telegraph

Love the way English develops though, we can all take Macca's use of french and american words in our stride ................................. as long as they're spelt correctly.

Exactly. And that's why we have "harbour"rather than "harbor". (I was going to say "labour" but maybe we will not have that for much longer).

Seriously, though, I agree that the development of the English language is fascinating but sadly REDZ represents no development whatsoever.

Re: Asfc redz

nah I didn't miss the point at all - and I agree. My point was that Accrington Stanley Football Club is not called Accrington Stanley Soccer Club.

Not everybody will like the Redz but then if it had been called ASFC Reds there would have no distinguishable difference between say the Clayton, Ossy or 'arrod Reds for example. It instantly says that it is a kids club. There is an argument regards spelling and setting examples but I don't think it's owt to write home about.

How does it do that? It seems to suggest that only children would use the spelling REDZ. If that is the suggestion, my point is even more valid than I thought.
