Re: Bavs in goal
Would have taken a point before kick off as York are a well organised team with a good spine, indeed they were unbeaten against Burton,Oxford and rochdale in there previous games.
I thought overall we edged it and Dawbs was rarely tested.
Some solid performances, hunty did well and Joycy worked hard.

Re: Bavs in goal
Bavs is a good keeper for league 2 who has continued to improve.
Some of the comments on this forum where disgraceful after the Newport game, the same people had to eat humble pie after his heroics a few days later at Middlesbrough.
I would like some facts instead of rumours as to his absence

It's against the law to have a football forum without rumours and the odd bit of fickleness thrown in

Re: Bavs in goal
Was GUTTED when I heard the news about Benitelli I must admit. Typical that both Fulham's number 1 (Steklenburg) and 3 (Etheridge) are BOTH injured which meant he sat on the bench yesterday at Carrow Road. Fingers crossed we can get him back.
As for Bavs, A club stalwart that's for sure, as well as being absolutely crackers.
But how long has Bav's been here and been in and out of the side?!?
No doubt about it before his injury a couple of years ago he was the best keeper in the League, those 15 or so games he really was magnificent. The 0-5 away loss at Oxford sticks in my mind. It really could and should have been 0-10 that day if it wasn't for him.
As good a shot stopper as we have ever had, but unfortunately you need more than that at League 2 level. How may clangers have we seen?!?!
IF he goes, which looks likely, I do wish him well. .........
As for Dawber he looked a little shaky yesterday, (especially after the knock he took on his knee) but who can blame him?? His first league start at 19, on boxing day in front of a big crowd. Despite that I thought he did very well. The lads obviously like him and who knows, another couple of games without mistakes and he might stake his claim for the number 1 shirt.

Re: Bavs in goal
Having tried it once (no-one else would) I realised the old joke about having to be crackers to be a goalie had the ring of truth.
Mr Dunbavin has been a stalwart for the club and, as you pointed out, he had a purple patch a while ago.
But, not wishing to raise Davo's hackles, I think your summary is spot on, Smudge.
He is/was a tremendous stopper of shots and penalties, but I've seen vampires more willing to tackle a cross.
I wondered whether he was destined to take on the role of goalkeeping coach at Stanley but, whatever happens, I hope it's for the best for both him and Stanley.

Aye, he did OK. Although after hearing JB's interview where he said he was pleased with a point, perhaps that explains Dawbers's dawdling in taking his goal kicks late on in the second half, when the Clayton End were screaming at him to hurry up. When he did eventually take a quick one in response he promptly whacked it hard and low straight into touch!

Re: Bavs in goal
Was very suprised we only had one keeper, especially as young Daws has been out for a while injured.
I dont know the rules, but cant you get special emergency loans were keepers are concerned?.
Saying that, yound Dawbs did ok once the nerves disappeared, needs to brush up on his out of hands kicking tho (seems to favour the outside of his boot).
Regarding Bavs,it just seems hes not part of JBs plans, simple really, great bloke, daft and unpredictable and a legend at Acci !!
There are a lot of good players who are trying to force there way into the team, which creates good competition, which inturn benefits the team.
The key is good management and JBs got his hands full as no one likes sitting on the bench/stands.

Re: Bavs in goal
We do have Wolland from the youth team, who I think is 17?? Must be youngest number 1 +2's in League football at the moment
Im assuming Dawber will play against Southend then JB will look at the Benitelli situation again.

Re: Bavs in goal
Give Dawber a chance , I think he did OK on Boxing Day , nervous , well maybe, but surely that is a natural feeling for a big event. Good luck to him and hope he saves many future goals.Good luck to Ian Dunbavin too where ever he is.
