Re: best atmosphere grounds?

correct lancsdave, otherwise you can't say better than Anfield on a European night or even the San Siro when its full.

But yeah the point of the post was grounds we've played at and may again. I thought Gay Meadow was built for noise but I suspect the new ground (Sexually Disorientated Meadow?) won't be a patch on it. I also like to think that somewhere along the lines of planning for new bits to put on our ground they will make allowances for noise amplification.

Any sponsors want to clad the breeze block wall with some tin?

I was born in Bury so know Gigg well. What disappopinted me was the music that blasted out when the Shakers scored, completely drowning their fans. It must be awful for the players not to hear their supporters cheering them on when they score. At least we were able to give Stanley a proper cheer when Gary and Rommy scored.

Re: best atmosphere grounds?

possably got to be BAMBER BRIDGE F.C. s ground, a great little covered away end for plenty of noise and a nice standing area right next to the club house, and stanley fans always filled it

Re: best atmosphere grounds?

in fairness to the Bamber Bridge reference, some of my best memories come from grounds like that. Few people who were there will forget Leek Town away on the first day of the season in the mid nineties. A coach load us nicking all the beer garden umbrellas before the game from the pub on the corner, the coach driver taking them back, 30 people huddled under a tiny 7' high tin roof and doing possibly our first ever .......s' red and white army unbroken for the entire second half, followed by being chased up the road by some locals for nicking the white ball of the pool table and one of the corner flags. Cracking atmosphere at that game, the trouble in them days was that there was only ever us singing, home fans very rarely made any sort of noise other than grumbling (hence the Emmerdale theme tune whenever in Yorkshire)

Smile Re: best atmosphere grounds?

I have lasting memories of the top end of the Victoria Ground at Burscough the season we peed the Unibond. PACKED!!!!! Also Hydes Ewen Fields ground in the same season at the bottom end (not the narrow terrace up at the top) - great atmospherics and one more was Stalybridges Bower Fold that season in the league - that was PACKED too. Oh another - the side bit at Droylsdens Butchers Arms that same season in the 2nd half - mental - all crammed in down that end with the tin roof.... class

Worst for me has to be Tamworth away (uncovered end at the bottom of the ground), Blyth away (either end) and Frickley away (either end) - its just impossible to make any kind of noise with the travelling numbers we had at the time in ANY of those places...
