Re: Bits & Bobs

Another manager gone just before we play them. Salford sack Neil Webb.

Stick to weather forecasting. Wood not Webb.

Bit surprised Owen Devonport leaving so soon after making his debut. Always thought he was one for the future.

Agree, Haggis. Presume he just wants to play, somewhere. Good luck to him.

Hilarious. Two great finishes though, the first with the nonchalence of 92-era Paul Beck, the second definitely reminiscent of late-70s Haggis.

Re: Bits & Bobs

Good to see Emerich Poilly being loaned out to Clitheroe.
He looks a very good prospect and I hope this is the start of him also moving up towards first team appearances.

If the link doesn't work, here's a copy:

SIR – With regard to goalkeeping techniques in football (Letters, February 15), I well remember attending a match in around 1960 at Accrington Stanley, then in the fourth division. They were playing Doncaster Rovers, and I was standing right behind the goal.

All through the match the Doncaster goalkeeper and the Accrington Stanley centre forward, both very large in stature, would have an enormous battle every time the ball was crossed into the penalty area. In about the 89th minute the ball came in and both players jumped for it. I could see that the goalkeeper was deliberately not watching the ball and focusing on the centre forward. He then punched the centre forward in the face, and the man fell like a cut tree to the ground. The goalkeeper immediately turned around, picked up his flat cap and walked towards the dressing room without waiting for the referee to give him his marching orders.

I would think Coleman / Bell will easily find a club before the start of next season but, what they wont find easy is when results aren't going their way.
Supporters at Stanley, in general, are very patient with the management staff when results don't always come our way. At most other clubs its a results business only and any slippage in results will end up with the supporters on the managers back and i don't think Coleman could cope with that.
