Boco
Hey chaps.
After talking Rob Russell on Friday night, we thought, wouldn't it be a good idea if we all got behind Mr Boco and showed him support for qualifying recently for Benin. Maybe we could open up this to everyone to have a think about. Maybe Benin shirts with Boco on the back or some banners, Maybe have a benin day for each of the qualifyers.
Might prove to be a good bit of spontanious fun. What do you all think? Worth getting behind?

Re: Boco
if you can find Benin shirts I'll have one. I've been trying to source one for the best part of a year the only thing left for me to do is blag Rommy for his or ring the benin embassy!!!
A t-shirt saying 'come on you squirrels' might be appropriate though!!!

Re: Boco
The Shirts or the flags both sound a really good idea!
What about included in the price that anybody pays there is a set amount that goes back to say a charity of Rommy's choice in Benin?

Re: Boco
I've been trying to source for a couple of weeks also. There doesn't appear to be any kind of 'official' outlet. However, I left my card with Boco who knows somebody who may be able to help. If we can get them for the right price, then get the name and number printed on and still be able to sell them at the correct price then I'll get some. Otherwise I'll certainly get some t-shirts printed up ready for exclusive sale in the Crown when the African Nations cup is on. It'd look quite good if we can get around 20 of us wearing Boco t-shirts and then Granada Reports around, as we'll probably be the only pub in the North West with a proper interest in the Cup.
Whack a few flags up around the place (easy enough to get hold of) and then get a couple of fancy dress 'voodoo doctors' or summat.
Any other ideas?
Maybe Hazel could get some authentic Benin grub on the go, but then again .......

This is not a good idea, in my opinion.
The rest of it sounds fine. The food idea would certainly interest me.

Re: Boco
Seems Voodoo is a recognised religion in Benin, and practised by 60% of the population.
BBC News | AFRICA | Benin marks Voodoo Day
"Huge loudspeakers blast out Congolese music, drowning the sound from traditional drummers."
No change there, then.

Re: Boco
i'd love to do the shirts, but it will depend on Boco's mate coming up trumps on a price, watch this space.
The Voodoo thing was in recognition of it being a nationally recognised thingy over there, whether that makes it a good thing or not will depend on the individual, all I meant was an idea for fancy dress!
It's all good, anybody got any further ideas on how we can make a 'Benin day'?

Re: Boco
What about an actual African Nations Cup Competition with a team representing each of the sixteen nations taking part who are:
Ghana
Ivory Coast
Egypt
Nigeria
Sudan
Cameroon
Angola
Senegal
Guinea
Mali
Nambia
Zambia
Morocco
Tunisia
Benin
South Africa
The competition could either be run perhaps as a five a side involving kids from the School of excellence, Schools or chuck it open to one of the leagues the Stanley juniors are involved in. Play it over a weekend or whatever as a Group Competition then on to the knockout stages culminating in the Final being played at the FES on Saturday 19th January at half time five minutes each way during the Brentford game which is two days before Benin kick off in their first game in the actual tournament. Perhaps have some kind off pitch side presentation at the end of the game for everyone who has taken part in the competition by my reckoning that would be eighty kids who would probably bring a couple of adults each could put an extra 250+ plus on the gate on the day. Maybe it is something that Hynburn Council could also use as a vehicle for promoting sport for kids in the Borough? Also include crowd participation by perhaps asking people to come in fancy dress and have prizes for the best, the worst etc, could make it into a real family day?
Just an idea!

Re: Boco
Half stealing your idea here Pendal Red, however,
Ghana
Ivory Coast
Egypt
Nigeria
Sudan
Cameroon
Angola
Senegal
Guinea
Mali
Nambia
Zambia
Morocco
Tunisia
Benin
South Africa
All 16 teams are put in a hat, pay £5 each for example.
Club takes £40???
Winner takes £20
Runner up £15
Third place gets their fiver back?
could run that through posters in crown??
