Bookmakers expecting an upset?

My friend ask me for the odds for Wednesday, and I was suprised if not shocked we are as short as 5/1. I was expecting 16/1.

Bookies prepearing themselves for an upset? Are they presuming Newcastle will be playing the reserves?

Re: Bookmakers expecting an upset?

presumably the home tie has a huge effect on the odds. I was hoping for a lot better as I'm feeling stupidly confident for some reason. I was also hoping for better odds on a draw after ninety, cos that's where I think the smart money should go - but those odds aren't worth anything

Newcastle didn't do too bad in their warm up match for Wednesday against Villa Today

Was wondering about that myself Red, either the Toon were exceedingly good or Villa were very very poor, which ever way its not a good omen for Wednesday, although it may make them complacent and underestimate Stanley and especially playing at the crown, they have been know to step on the odd banana skin from time to time, Hereford springs to mind

Well Dav, a couple of bookies have us 9/2 which is even shorter odds. However, as Newcastle are odds on, I think Macca may be right on betting on the draw after 90 minutes. Whatever happens and whatever the result, the only winners on the night can be Stanley.

I suspect that Newcastle were sending a sublime message to say that they are not afraid of Stanley.

Re: Bookmakers expecting an upset?

Just maybe he was talking about Saturday's match away at Wolves but, according to the Press Association at The Press Association: Hughton focusing on next game after their 6-0 win at the weekend, Newcastle's manager said "Yes, it's very much about getting feet very firmly on the ground. We are away from home in our next game and we expect it will be very, very tough."
