Re: Bradford City ponder move for local lad Matty Pearson
Let's put this into perspective.
Apparently, some Arabian owned French club are paying almost £200m for Neymar.
The fee being quoted for Matty wouldn't even pay his weekly wage!
And yet, given the option of dropping Matty for Neymar, I know who would get the place.
Matty can defend!
Matty can play midfield!
Matty can score goals!
500k would get you nowhere near a suitable replacement with the same abilities.
At this level, Matty is worth his weight in gold!

Re: Bradford City ponder move for local lad Matty Pearson
I for one am not forgetting Matty or his ambitions at all 28, if & when he does move on I'll wish him all the best & keep an eye out for how he's doing as I have with other players we've lost.
But, & admittedly for purely selfish reasons, for me the club & it's fortunes come first. I know that players coming & going is part & parcel of football but as I've already said when it comes to it, I can't be objective & my heart rules my head 99% of the time - but then that's part of being emotionally attached to the club.

Re: Bradford City ponder move for local lad Matty Pearson
After a poor game 18 months ago,Matty proclaimed he was going home and getting his tools out the shed and retiring from footy and going back on the building sites !!1
Still makes me smile !!,bet hes glad he didn't .
His attitude will always be his main attribute - born winner -simple.
Anything over 250k for an unproven player is a lot,but time will tell
confident he will be a success, hes got the "tools",big, strong, fast and fit and great in the air, what more do you want !!!

Re: Bradford City ponder move for local lad Matty Pearson
Lets not forget just because we're offering 2 year deals etc that we have a bottomless pit of money!
And don't be fooled that Coley doesn't have his eye on a replacement with all this talk of Matty leaving!
Really hope that he stays though!

Re: Bradford City ponder move for local lad Matty Pearson
If 500k is a true figure then thats one I'd be happy with - its what we should be doing at this level. But it makes even angrier at the supposed 200k for Shay.
Dont get me wrong, I'd sooner have a team of Matty Ps than of Shays, but everyone knows strikers are where the money is at. 200k for a 23yr old goalscorer, with pace, free kick specialist AND a full international is ridiculous IF accurate

Re: Bradford City ponder move for local lad Matty Pearson
Then you could say he was with us 6 years and we only really got 6 months that were decent out of him IMO!
A Shay is easier replaced than a Matty!

Let's get this into perspective then.
If Matty is Accy's jewel in the Nile - PAY HIM A WAGE COMMENSURATE WITH THAT AND EXTEND HIS CONTRACT !

Re: Bradford City ponder move for local lad Matty Pearson
Nothing to do with money,Andy Holt would love him to stay and from what ive heard,he was willing to back it up.
Its all to do with ambition, and 99% of young pros will want to test themselves if they get the opportunity.
Looks like Matty may have that opportunity.
The biggest loss to Accrington would be Andy Holt and Coley IMO

Re: Bradford City ponder move for local lad Matty Pearson
We all know Stanley have the lowest operating budget in the EFL.
On our gates we can't afford to match some of the players wages available, even including the Conference, or offer long contracts.
That doesn't mean we should sell the family silver on the cheap.
Pearson would be an asset to any Championship side.
If Barnsley are serious, they should expect to pay a fee commensurate with their Championship status, not expect to get a quality player on the cheap.
Is 500k the going rate for a Championship defender?

Re: Bradford City ponder move for local lad Matty Pearson
That was my point Cashy,he's a league two defender with great potential.
Was told we turned down 300k,which if true is a real gamble.
Could get injured on Saturday and be sidelined for twelve months!!
It's a lot of money for a defender, but on the flip side I fancy Acci this year with him in the team, feel for Coley

Re: Bradford City ponder move for local lad Matty Pearson
My honest opinion is Matty P. would be much better in long run having a good run with Stanley and then if he did, would be Much better for him and the Club, that way everyone wins.
