Brief reflections on last night

Just got home after long round trip from Carshalton; obviously still shellshocked after Saturday and we were nowhere near as dangerous yesterday (and Stanley looked far sharper), so result never really in doubt. Have to say the Stanley fans were quality and there was nothing but friendliness from everyone- and not a trace of the arrogance that a lot of conference clubs seem to exhibit. Shame that Accrington seemed to be closed by the time we got there and there wasn't much real ale to be found, aside from that and the outcome it was a good trip. I think everyone at Carshalton would wish you all the best in your bid to get back in the league- it would be great to see one of football's old names return from the dead!
Just as a point of interest, I assume you had an old ground somewhere nearer the town centre?

Re: Brief reflections on last night

Glad to hear you had a safe return. Can understand your fans feelings after Sat but as MUFC fans know it aint over till the final whistle blows, 90 or 99, the game continues until the ref says so. Yes we had a ground on Burnley rd known as Peel park, but the club had to relinquish it when we went under in 1962. It is now a part of the school on site there.
There are a few good pubs locally with real ale but not near the current ground. Maybe the best for a decent pint would have been the Greyhound, a Sam Smiths pub with a pint from around £1.35. If you get the chance to come up again with more time, the Royal in Great Harwood is a CAMRA listed pub with its own brewery in the cellar run by the owner, plus he has numerous guest real ales too, my favourite haunt on a night out. All the best in your battle to stay up & thank your numerous fans who have contrbuted to our site re our friendliness etc. Nice to know we do what we say.

Re: Brief reflections on last night

I would echo Big Al’s sentiments. The old ground was at Peel Park, the land that held the pitch itself is still there although little more than memories survive of the stadium that once held crowd of 26,000. Perhaps the next time you’re up here a visit might be arranged, with some real Ale perhaps and a few ghosts.
