Re: burscough scores

Does anyone know anything about Mark Boyd who played for us at Burscough? Is he the same player who's just been released by Gretna - http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/sport/v...aspx?id=321853?

Re: burscough scores

Great technique, excellent passer of the ball, not the quickest. Hasn't played alot of games recently as was injured at Gretna and didn't get his place back so he will need time to get up to match fit.

If you play decent passing football and have a midfielder who will do alot of running and tackling beside him he will do well for you.

I can assure you he has not had a trial for Shamrock Rovers! It was Doncaster Rovers.

Re: burscough scores

Many thanks for the info. Looks well-travelled for his age. Could he play as a trialist last night or is he an "emergency signing" under the new barmpot rules? Anyone know the SP?

Re: burscough scores

He was playing as a trialist last night but I believe he has signed for you now, was released by Gretna so was a free agent.

Had the chance to join Stockport but turned them down and has a number of options at the end of the season. Was well liked by Horton when at Vale but didn't get on with Foyle.

Re: burscough scores

According to some of the players talking about him in the sports bar i heard he sits in front of the back four well and can pass the ball and that he would still be playing for gretna if he didn't get a serious leg injury...I'm guessing he is a replacement for Barry if we sign him up..

Re: burscough scores

Strange the club's not saying anything one way or t'other. Be nice to know if the sqad is being strengthened ahead of a tough run of games.

Re: burscough scores

According to someone from Alty on confguide Mark Boyd was supposed to be trialing for them last night but didn't show up so there may be some truth in that he has signed for us - time will tell.

Rovers trial for Scots quartet

July 6, 2005

Shamrock Rovers will give a trial to four players, including former Preston North End striker Joe O’Neill, in Wednesday evening’s friendly against Hibernian at Dalymount Park in the finale of the Scottish Premier League side’s Irish summer tour.

Hibs have already played Cork City and St Patrick’s Athletic, losing to the Leesiders after a penalty shoot-out on Sunday before putting five past the Saints at Richmond Park yesterday (Tuesday).

The Scots will look to maintain that form against a Rovers side which will, in addition to O’Neill, contain three trialists from Scottish Division Three side Gretna.

Goalkeeper Alan Main, a former Scotland under-21 international, and midfield pair Ryan McGuffie and Mark Boyd, will all play for the Hoops against Hibs.
