Burton player stabbed
James Ellison joined Burton in the summer
A former Liverpool FC player is recovering in hospital after being stabbed in the back at a bar in the city centre.
James Ellison, 18, who now plays for Burton Albion, was attacked by Newz Bar in Water Street, Liverpool, in the early hours of Sunday.
The striker had been out with a group of friends, his Npower League Two club confirmed.
Merseyside Police appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
"James has been involved in an incident whilst he was out with a group of friends," Albion boss Paul Peschisolido told the club's official website.
"I have spoken with him since and I am relieved to say that he will be leaving hospital shortly.
"I would like to wish James a speedy recovery on behalf of everyone at the football club."
A graduate of Liverpool FC's academy, Ellison joined Burton in the summer.
